Best OTC clay?

I'm gonna try claying for the first time and need opinions on the best OTC clay available. Actually, the choices locally are Mother's CA Gold or Meg's Quik Clay. Opinons?

If claying turns out as good as everyone says, then I'll buy my next batch and make it Sonus or DP or something simliar.

Clay Magic would be my suggestion. AutoZone is a distributor. If that isn't an option then go for Mother's. Similar to Clay Magic would be Four Star or Wolfgang if you are ordering online.

My vote is for Clay Magic. Good price and available at Advance Auto. With the Mother's Kit you have to buy cleaner wax and it costs more than the Clay Magic kit.

I've read that Mothers clay is supposedly the #1 ranked OTC clay, with regards to sales. This is as reported by some independent 3rd party fact gathering firm.
I've also read that Megs recently re-did their clay package and it's supposed to be better than its previous incarnation. This is as per Megs' web site.
As to personal experience in comparing/contrasting them, well, that excludes me.

I vote for the Clay Magic kit as well. The Mother's and the Meguiar's kits both are more expensive and come with garbage I don't want like a sample of cleaner wax.

This is because Mothers has a huge marketing arm and is every where....Its a good product I've used it and would buy it again if that's all I has access to.

my vote Megs clay

but dont just depend on OTC clay there are higher end clay for example polyclay

clay magic same resuits for half the price & a Sprayer lube, when compared to most boutique products its the best price & the original clay

You can always stop by PAINT AND BODY SUPPLY shops and pick up clay. You can choose from light to medium aggresive clay.

If u want something quick I would stop by Advance Auto Parts. Last time I checked they had Meguiar's new ClayKit. From what others have posted, I think it came with their QD, One Supreme Shine MF, and TWO (yes count them) Clay Bars. All for around 16 bucks I was told.

Check it out.

side note: If you plan on using a swirl remover as part of a full detail then I would suggest an aggressive clay bar. Makes claying a lot faster with less wiping of the bar against the paint. The marring it leaves behind isn't that harsh, and ssr1 with a polishing pad and the PC takes it right out.

Sorry for the extra information. :angel_not

The Meg's Smooth Surface, if the clay is as good as the others, is a good OTC deal. The two bars are only 50g each, but still 100g is better than the 80g in the Mothers kit. Plus, as joyriide said, it comes with a MF towel, which the Mothers doesn't, and the two kits are about the same price.

Like joyride said go to your local paint and body supply store. Most carry clay magic in both grades, and in the larger 200 gram size bar for around 20$. IMO thats a better deal then going to autozone and buying the smaller bar and lub kit. As to what the best otc clay is?? They all do the same thing, basically. I think it comes down to what the better deal is. I use claymagic.

Thanks for the info. I haven't seen Clay Magic in any local stores but I may stop by an auto body and paint supply shop to see what's available.

I have used both the mothers and claymagic and I prefer the Cm one, but if you are in a pinch the mothers will work fine as it is still very good.
