Best oil filter wrench for 1.8T Audi/VW?

Wow,

I would glady do all that other stuff if I had the skill and education. One tool that makes the oil change incredibly less messy and frustrating is an oil extractor. It almost rivals my polishers as my favorite tool. I don't remember when I opened a drain plug last now.

Maybe it's just my mentality...every time I used to go to do an oil change I'd figure it to be a 30-45 minute job...by the time I got done making my mess and cleaning it up PLUS taking the oil down to the local parts store to be recycled it was more like 1.5 hours.

Now when I set out to do my timing belt and water pump this year...took me 12 hours in a freezing cold garage (february in ohio) BUT I wasn't as upset or disappointed as I expected that sort of timeframe...actually it was easier than I had anticipated.

I guess it's all in my head but as much as I drive (~2000 mi per month....yes my 99 A4 has over 140k in the clock)...it seemed like I was always changing the oil and it just wasn't worth it for me anymore.

By the way...I'd love to see pictures of your car sometime...I'm always down for seeing a beautiful / clean Audi.

Takes me about the same amount of time but thanks to the extractor, little to no mess. I can go detail while the extractor is pumping here and there and I can extract the oil when its piping hot, makes the extractor vacuum even better

Just click on my sig and/or visit my gallery for pics of my A4. :up

I have an extractor, too, but I still manage to get oil all over the belly pan and garage floor when removing the filter. :(

BW,

Stick newspaper and/or rags in that part of the engine compartment beforehand. A plastic bag to grip over the filter may help too :xyxthumbs.
