I read a good review on the Turtle Wax MFs they're now selling at Pep Boys...

I was at Pep Boys today to look at some tires..and looked at the detailing supplies..seen the TW towels...they are nothing special...in fact the wal mart bundled ones are a touch better...

I did get the megs foam applicators at a buck a pack for 2....these are hard to find now....they were on the clearance shelf along with all the TW platinum stuff and Truck gloss and truck wash....

I do not like the Target mf's but bought some Viking yellows and greens and they are on par with boutique towels from online retailers.

agreed, excellent high qualilty mf towels! :2thumbs:

Walmart sells a big blue microfiber towel for drying, and I love it. It's very similar to the Vroom one at Target, but IMHO the Walmart one is nicer.

by the way, the vroom and microtex are both made by the same company...

to be honest i only use them to remove polish and have not had a problem. I use seperate towels for wax/sealant and QD.

orange- polish

white- interior/wheels/misc

yellow- QD

Is the color coding of MF towels the same throughout the different brands? Is it really important to stay with the color coding or will i damage paint or something if I use the wrong color?

Color coding is not consistent among brands/retailers.

The color coding is just a tool to help you dedicate certain types of MF towels for certain uses - the most important being to keep your towels for paint/glass separate from your towels for wheels/tires.

So it doesn't matter what colors are designated. If i choose blue for polish and green for interior, i should just stick to that designation so it doesn't mix for different surfaces right?

Yes.

The colors designations don't matter.

The weave and the nap are what matter. Whatever you plushest deepest nap MF towel is should be dedicated for QD (quick detail work). Your short dense weave/nap towels should be used for removing waxes/sealants/paint cleaners or for doing glass. Waffle-Weave (WW) MFs should be used for drying, etc.

Once you've assigned certain towels for paint vs. wheel/tire, just don't mix.

I've gotten in the habit of washing the glass towels separate from all the other towels to prevent any wax/polish residue in the wash water on them and causing them to streak later on. Might be a little too paranoid, but there's nothing worse than spending all the time cleaning the glass and then having streaks show up later.

i would go with the green Viking microfiber QD towels are really good but stay away from the tan thin ones from Viking they are bad.

Meguiars Ultimate detailing cloth is also pretty good.

I was just at HEB and bought myself a 3-pack of the Viking MFs. They feel really nice and I just washed them so that they're ready for duty.

I think I only paid $3.98 for all three, not too bad.

The Viking Towels are very nice. They seem to be pretty high quality. I have a couple of the drying towels. I believe they are on sale right now at Kmart.

i have an assortment of mf's, and the viking's are every bit as good as the pakshaks, megs, cobras, chemical guys, etc.. i use them regularly with no problems at all whatsoever... :2thumbs:

My wife bought me 2 Vroom towels at Target. Is is really a mistake to use them, or is it just a matter of personal preference here?

My car's got black paint. Does that metter?

I've been using the Vroom mf from Target on my G35 and my wifes black altima and I love them. No issues with paint at all.
