Best dressing for ext plastics?

I've used Black Again and CG's New Look Trim Gel and find CG's to be the winner here. In one instance I applied them side by side on my honda van just about two weeks ago. Since then the van has been driven a few hundred miles and rained on plenty here in ohio. In applying them you can notice the CG's is thicker and seems to go further where with Black Again I needed to go back frequently for more to get the same area of coverage. On the vertical surfaces ( panels around windows on front doors ) they both seems to be holding up fairly well but on horizontal surfaces ( rubber strips on roof, roof rack, step on rear bumper, front grill) the CG's seems to be holding up better keeping it's richness as if it attaches itself better somehow and holds on longer.

Hmm...as an OTC product, I really like Bondo's Restore Black. Haha, although I found out that the picture on the bottle are the same as the ones for "Forever Black" I found that the stuff worked pretty well on my bumper and made it black, not just almost-black, but black. I have to reapply it to my door handles every month or so, but my bumpers and mirrors hold it much longer.

Also, I wasn't a fan of Forever Black...it didn't apply very well and the liquid was very thin, which made it streak more and also made an even application more difficult as it would smear and went on very thin.

The best I've used on hard plastic is Tropicare non silicone dressing- it lasts for months as long as the surface is clean and silicone free

Ah...I thought about trying this one....and will do so if the PB Trim Restore fails me.

Thanks

I use PB Trim Restore and have been quite happy. It doesn't streak on my cars at all.

Oh, and RMG does work on trim to clean/remove wax from my experience. It may take a bit of elbow grease, but it'll work

Can you post some pic and process of using FMJ on trim?

Thanks

I have a 2002 F-250 with the same outside mirrors that you have. Just wash and put on FMJ. Plus, you might as well do the whole truck with FMJ. :2thumbs:

I wouldn’t need the FMJ for the whole truck, I’m more than happy with the durability, ease of use, and the look of Z-5 and Z-2.

Menzerna Products are great; however I detail as a hobby and would have few “other uses for FMJ if I wasn’t satisfied with the results of using it on my trim.

I’m building a nice little collection of wheel well dressings while searching for a dressing solution for my exterior trim. :getdown

First update:

Autogeeks got my order here pretty quick and the order was well packaged.

I haven’t tried the Poorboy’s Trim Restore on the pieces that I posted in the pictures yet, however I did “test some trim pieces on my wife’s Maxima last night.

My first impression was WOW this is a really lightweight dressing (a very thin liquid and smells like coconut oil or Hawaiian Tropic Suntan Oil).

Most all trim dressings tend to make marketing claims about their product’s ability to penetrate or re-hydrate plastic and or rubber trim pieces, the PB Trim Restore seemed to actually “soak in to the pieces that I applied it to.

Thanks to Picus for this tip>>(Oh, and on the trim restore, sometimes it will leave the trim more white; re-application seems to re-hydrate, and the whiteness stops and the shine lasts awhile.)

Once I had the pieces well hydrated the finish had a nice shine to it, (it was a bit finicky to get an even look on dryer pieces).

After today’s rain I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was no streaking and that the treated pieces were still shining.

I’ll try to include before and after pics of the Truck mirrors and other trim pieces when I do them this weekend.

Thanks to all. :2thumbs:

Before and afters..

The PB Trim Restore did bleed a little on the first rain, however the rain came just hrs after I finished and the after pic is after the rain.

I have a near-full bottle of Turtle wax Ice that my friend gave me-the stuff is worthless for paint. But it does work well on trim, I just used it on a BMW X5 I detailed and the owner commented on the trim.

Welp...looks like I'm gonna have to get a bottle of PB Trim Restore when my bottle of Restore Black is gone.

Those results are awesome. Be sure to update us on durability/longevity. :hifive:

I had heard that TWI was an option for trim...I talked myself out of it like 3 times while I was at Wally World.....it's a product type that I would have no "other" use for if I didn't like it on my trim.

I'll post the same shot next weekend for comparison...and it's raining about every day right now in Florida.

Thanks

Anybody know if AIO/SG works as well on textured black plastic trim as well?

To answer my own question, the Klasse AIO bottle says it's good for anything, nonporus including painted metal, glass, plastic, plexiglass... so I spent a portion of the day applying AIO/SG to my Rendezvous with PC - stuff works great. I put it everywhere except the windshield.

Yeah, if you're looking for something exclusively for trim, don't bother with the ice. I'm just going to use it 'til I run out and then get something more dedicated.

Yes, there is an answer. Will post photo results when someone can explain to a layman how to get a photo on a post. Can't figure this out for the life of me. Also, G35stilez are you still in the area of Virginia Beach? If so, I can always meet with anyone who would like to see this work. M,T & TH I'm around the Virginia Beach area (North Hampton Blvd) until 2:00p.m. If anyone can, please attach the steps to posting a photo on this thread and I will follow up.
