That comment is like you heard it from a friend who knew someone. The point I was making is that I've used them four times now, the last time is the one I mentioned. Never a problem and always ahead of schedule. The thing here is that anyone making recommendations or posting about bad experiences should only post personal experiences.
Well I had my brand new Evo IX MR shipped from California to me here in Pennsylvania, just a few weeks ago and I
WOULDN'T recommend them!
I paid extra for door-to-door delivery from the dealership to my home, and was told the transport would take up to two weeks, but that most likely I would get it sooner.
Car was picked up from the dealership on 4/25, and the arrival date was scheduled on or before 5/9.
The car sat at their terminal out in California for over a week before finally making it's way out to Texas on 5/4 (their tracking system had showed it still in California up until two hours or so before correcting itself, so I don't know when it actually left the terminal), where it proceeded to sit at this new hub for days on end with no explanation. I called thier customer service several times, but was never given any reason for the delay other than they needed the time to work out the logistics of the route and so forth (wasn't this the whole reason it sat out in California for so long?).
Finally, on 5/8, they acknowledged that the vehicle woulnd't make it to me by the scheduled arrival date, but they assured me that the driver would be leaving that day or the next, and my new arrival date was 5/13. At this point, I still had never been given any reason for the hold up, and although I spoke with several different representatives, all of whom assured me they would call me back with more information, none of them ever did.
The car finally started moving again on 5/11, although by this time the automated tracker system was showing a new arrival date of 5/16...
The car finally made it to their Pittsburgh hub on Saturday 5/13, but a quick call to their local terminal (by the way, these seem to be independant contractors that DAS hires out, so their quality may vary - this one happened to be a towing company right in downtown Pittsburgh) let me know that they only have one driver that does the DAS pickups/deliverys, but that he doesn't work the weekends.
Called the terminal back Monday morning about 10:00, and was told the driver wasn't in yet, but that they would have him call as soon as he gets in. Driver calls me back at about 11:15 to let me know he's leaving Pittsburgh now, and that he should be at my house in about an hour to an hour and a half. Luckily, my job's pretty lenient about taking off time when needed, so I take an extended luch break and meet him at my house about 12:45.
Now bear in mind that I had told them not to wash the car (didn't want any of their ham-fisted atteneants putting any swirls in my new ride, so I'm not surprised it's filthy from it's cross country journey. Couple that with the fact that it had been raining for days on end, and it was no surprised that the car looked pretty sad. Not a problem, as everything seemed to be in order, and no parts or accessories were missing.
It wasn't until I started cleaning it the next day that I found three scratches/indentations on the rear bumper...
Now they're pretty tiny, but definately noticeable if you know where to look for them. Because of their placement, I suspect that some of the chains they use to tie the vehicle down had smacked into the back end of the car. But because I have no proof as to what stage this happened at, I decided not to waste the time and effort fighting with DAS (who had been pretty lackluster up until now anyway). Since I work at a fairly large car dealership, I spoke to our body shop on Thursday,, and was given a cost of just under $300 to fully repair the bumper (and this is with all the discounts their giving me for being an employee).
So, not only was DAS late by almost a week, but I'm going to have to fork over an additional $300 to fix my brand new car which was somehow damaged in transit.
