Best buffer for cheap?

The PC is a great tool which does not require great skills to achieve good results. Obvously in the right hands it will give even better results.

To buy cheap is to buy twice

What is the differnce between the 7224 and the 7336?

And with the 7336 that Lowes sells would I just need to buy the buffer pads or would I need to buy another connector? It describes it only as a sander and doesn't mention anything else or about how the pads attach. BTW it costs $109 where I'm at.

Thanks

Also is excel detail the cheapest place to get those pads?

And what pads would you recomend for me just getting into the detailing business? (I plan on using it for waxing and polishing but nothing heavy duty)

the difference between the 7224 & 7336 is the counterweight (buy which ever is convenient). there is no/minimal difference in use... all you need to buy after you purchase the 7224 or 7336, is a backing plate and pads (buy plenty of pads) which can be bought online or at a good car detail supply store.

EDIT: typed this up at the same time as the person before, o well, I'll leave it anyways.

wow.. that sucks.. 93 at mine. I'm guessing you mean 7424 in that case the difference is the counter weight that comes with it. The 7424 comes with a counterweight for a 5 in plate since it comes with an initial 5" sanding plate, while the 7336 comes with one for a 6" plate with the 6" sanding plate. that is the only difference.

Usually what you need is a backing plate and the pads. The backing plate is usually 5 in and there are those who believe that the 5" backing plate when used with the 7336 will vibrate too much or whatever, but then there are some who prefer the 7336 with the 6" counterweight, and then of course, there are those who say you can't really feel the difference. Do a search if you want.

the only reason I got a 5" counterweight for mine is because I plan on getting a 4" pad set sometime, and i figured for only a few dollars, I might as well get the counterweight just in case there is vibration. I haven't took the time to see if there is significant vibration when using the 7336 w/ 4" pads, but as I said, it's only a couple bucks.

in terms of pads, there is a set that I dont believe uses a backing plate if you don't want to. They are called Edge pads, you can do a search for them.

Since your Lowes is 16 dollars more than mine and your savings won't be as much, you could probably just order a kit from one place or just get it online. I'm not sure how cheap you are, myself being a college student, i pinch every penny i can.

cheers

Pads really depend on preference. I went with exceldetail.com because I thought they had a pretty good deal. Like I said there are also edge pads that don't require the backing plate, Plus you can use both sides of the pads.

In terms of how many pads to get, I'm really not sure. For me, shipping is a big waste so I just got the kit they offered which gave one of each and an extra polishing because that seems to get hit with a few different products in one session. You could easily just get the small kit they have at excel made for basic polishing and waxing, but for me I'd rather just have everything at once.

DARN!! just looked at the site and noticed they got 4" pad sets. Guess I gotta do shipping twice now. :doh
