Before and after pictures of the 1991 e34 M5 BMW that will be in the Meguiar's booth

Wow, first class work :xyxthumbs :bow

If anyone from Meguiar's UK wants to do the same, I will offer my car, as long as they finish the job afterwards.

Wow, those seem like some huge discrepancies in paint thickness. Do those gauges work as well on aluminum, plastic, and fiberglass panels? Thanks for the more pics. It's really interesting.

The discrepancies reflect the fact that the hood and the deck lid have been repainted.

As far as the sun roof goes.... ???

I don't know anything about it.

But... I'll tell you this.... after checking the thickness I knew in advance not to spend a lot of "time" buffing that panel, and not to use a very aggressive product, thus I only used #82 Swirl Free Polish.

I have all of the "Before" measurments which I will post when I get time, right now it's 6:24am at the Sandman Inn and Lynn and I are getting ready to head over to Cutter Motors to set-up our booth.

Let's all hope it doesn't rain!

As far as the guage goes, this one is for "metal". They make ones for other materials but I have not used one. I'll ask Mike Pennington, our Director of Training, he will have the right answer.

The thing about this thread that really gets me is the judicious use of the "nuclear bomb" Compound Power Cleaner and Diamond Cut (!) Compound, both of which we don't hear about being used very much. Also, the heavy cut cleaner to remove paint transfer....

All sounds so scary when I just type them out like that. :D

Yeah, they sound like liquid sandpaper or something, but I mean really, they are made to be used on paint (as is some sandpaper)... It isn't like they are some product made just to ruin a car or something...

Mike, not only was that amazing, but it was very educational for me! I love the description you wrote up for the process.

Another treasure to add to the autopian knowledge bank. :D

Thanks Acura_RL

As time permits, I will post some more pictures with write-ups of some car I have detailed over the years. I almost always take pictures and try to document anything interesting or unique, (like the Chicken Truck).

The Bimmerfest was a great by the way.

We met lots of people from all over the web. It's kind of fun to finally put a face to name.

I was especially impressed by a certain senior in high school, (Ty) who drove all the way down from Seattle, WA in his BMW to attend the event.

I drove down here from Albany, OR three times, (twice in the Milk Truck), and I can testify…. That is a looonnnggg drive.

I met AMP99, and checked out his car and his incredible finish.

One word... Flawless! :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow

It was interesting how many people came by the booth to check out the 'side-by-side' demonstration.

We couldn't have found a better car or a better owner. Ben went above and beyond the call of duty by providing us with his car and then driving it to and from Santa Barbara for the event.

Thanks Ben.... You da man! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

I could have told you that just from the pics he posts! :D I'm always doing a lot of :bow when he posts pictures.

Wow! What an incredible improvement!

What is really incredible though is that someone would neglect their car so badly!
