Basic polishing/waxing system

Hello all, this is my first post but I have been lurking for awhile now. I have tried to do some searching but have come up with mainly info that is beyond what I am looking for. I was wondering if you all could recommend a basic, but quality polish/wax system for me. I will be using it on a truck that is only 6 months old, so I assume that I will only need a mild polish. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

camaddy- Welcome to Autopia. Yeah a lot of the stuff posted here is a bit much for "regular applications by normal people" ;) There are countless combos you could try, but IMHO...



The simplest thing I'd recommend is using a polish from 1Z (PP or MP/Wax Polish Soft, depending on how bad your marring is), topped with Meg's #16. Quick and easy, great results.



Check out the 1Z website and check out their polishes. An alternative is to use Meg's #80 Speed Glaze for your polish, but I's still say to go with the 1Z stuff. It's just *so* user-friendly and it has some wax in it, so if you run out of time/steam it'll protect the finish until the next wash (so you can just add wax then).



The #16 is just a great wax for real-world vehicles. Lasts a long time, looks great, easy enough to use if you do one panel at a time (don't let it set up too long).

As for products, well, this entire community discusses products ad nauseum so instead of me throwing out suggestions I'll just say, read all the info and make up your own mind as to what products to buy and from who.

Accumulator- thanks for the info. That's what I was looking for. If I could ask you another question, what would be the better choice of what you mentioned for only light marring- the PP or MP/Wax Polish Soft? Is one too harsh for a relatively new car?



bretfraz- I'm looking mainly for product recommendations. I don't need the very best, just something that works well and is resonably priced. Anything is a step up from the Turtle Wax I've been using!

If it's not too marred up, go with the MP or the WPS. The WPS is really just a similar but better product, but it's only available in large (well, 1 litre) sizes and it costs a little more than the MP. Either one should work fine, but if you can, spring for the WPS. That one litre can will last a good long time. The PP isn't really TOO strong for a new car, but no sense using anything stronger than you need.
