After Dawning, Claying, Dawning, I'd like to use Meg. Swirl Mark REmover 2.0. Do I then need another "glaze" such as "Show Car Glaze" or "new Car Glaze" or is that redundant. Then wax of course.
 
You don't need one. Many like to apply them, but it's not necessary. Some glazes have abrasive properties, but you can apply them every so often without any problems.



If you do decide to apply a glaze, just make sure that you apply a wax over it. If you apply a polymer sealant (Klasse, Zaino, Blackfire), the glaze will interfere with its bonding.



I myself have used glazes and polishes in the past without much in the way of results. I generally use wax only. However. there are many here who swear by glazes. The Meguiar's ones you have selected are a good choice. I have even been toying with the idea of trying them again.
 
Hey Katie, carguy posted a review of the Meguiar's SMR 2.0. HERE is the thread. btw he did not use a glaze after the 2.0. It's a really nice review with Ferrari and Porsche photos to boot. Short Cut says check it out. :up :up
 
By the way, why the first Dawn wash? I don't think it's necessary because clay removes anything on the car including wax, and whatever it leaves behind is picked up by the dawn wash. You should keep Dawn washing to a minimum if possible, just to be safe.
 
Glazes are nothing but makeup for your car. They will not solve a swirl mark problem, just cover it up. Most glazes, even with a wax on top, degrade quickly and won't last more than a few weeks.

I think there are several reasons that it is common to Dawn wash first. Most obviously, it is better to wash dirt off a car rather than rub it off with a semi hard object such as clay.



Second, if the car has been waxed, it is more efficient to wash off the wax rather than rub it off with a two inch piece of clay. Along that line, the clay would really tend to load up if it had to take everything off itself.



Lastly, I don't believe remember reading reports of damage from Dawn washing a car -- maybe I missed them, but I don't recall the experienced members reporting Dawn damage to the paint. Yes, it can leave a detergent film -- I have seen it and, yes, it will strip off your nice wax job, but that is not paint damage.



The solution to any detergent film is to Dawn, then clay, then shampoo. I use a car shampoo (Z7) as the clay lube, which really makes sure any detergent film is removed.
 
Perhaps the <em class='bbc'>second[/i] Dawning is not necessary. The jury is still out on the deleterious effects Dawn. Some (like RK) believe that it accelerates the degredation of the plasticizers in the clearcoat, but doing it once in a while isn't going to have a noticeable effect.

I agree. The second washing is unnecessary. And, yes, there is little need to Dawn was frequently, so there probably is little issue here.

I recently finished my full detail on my MKIV Supra. This was done in preparation for a Supra Car Show in a couple of weeks. I was originally gonna wait until closer to the date however my schedule didn't allow for it. This way it's done, just a good wash and fresh wax the day before should get it looking great again.

I am so happy with the results it's crazy. I spent a lot of time on this one, more than was probably needed by my OCD kicked in and took over.

Steps were as follows:

- Engine Cleaning

- Two Bucket Wash w/ Wash Pad dedicate to paint and Mitt dedicated to wheels/undercarriage.

- Dry down

- Wheel wells cleaned/dressed.

- Wheels/tires removed, cleaned, dressed.

- Interior cleaned and dressed.

- Door sills, cracks and crevasses cleaned, waxed by hand.

- IPA Wipedown on old shitty Mothers product still left behind.

- Clayed

- Masked off trim, lights, badges, etc.

- M105 on LC CCS Orange Pad via PC 7424XP

- M205 on LC CCS White Pad via PC 7424XP

- Blackfire WD Protectant on LC CCS Gold Pad via 7424XP

- TWO coats of Blacfire Caranuba on Supplied Gold Pad. (8 Hours between Coats)

- Cleaned Glass.

- Dressed exterior trim.

No understand the car itself was generally pretty clean with only 22k Original miles on it. The main issues were swirls and clear coat scratches.

I wanted to try and get some sun burst shots with the LSP on, the overcast weather here would not allow for it but I think they look crazy anyway.

Nice job on the detail. I've always been disappointed Toyota quit making the Supra. Back before I had to start driving family-haulers, the Supra was always my dream car. I remember when they first came out with the big slant-nose version ... those were the days!
