Ball Park Select (hot dogs)

I would say IMO, that for the ultimate Weiner-Hot Dog-Frank, it would have to definitely be in a natural casing. Although this doesn't necessarily assure what's inside is good, because I have had natural casing wieners-sausages over the years that were "meh".

But there is no duplicating that "snap" that only a natural casing product will have.

I generally agree with your observations. I like Dietz and Watson.

I also prefer my dogs be of the "all meat" variety. All beef hot dogs are not really my idea of a traditional hot dog. The same can be said of Bologna.

From growing up poor

LOL Had to chuckle at that one!

With me, and growing up as a kid in Chicago, virtually every neighborhood had a Hot Dog Stand-Beef Stand on every street corner.

Done "Chicago Style", Black Poppy Seed Bun, always steamed, Mustard, Relish, Chopped Onions, and Brined Sport Peppers for those who like it hot.

Back then, it common to see the Dogs, and Polish Sausage in deep Ceramic Tubs-Pots with Steel Lids.

Ketchup was a rare condiment, but sometimes you might see sliced Pickle, Cucumber, and even Tomato Wedges. Some might even add a dash of Celery Salt to all this.

As a kid, Hot Dogs rarely cost more than a quarter, and fresh French Fries usually accommodated such, all rolled up in paper, and bagged.

Lots of folks who worked in the Stands used to do that fancy "pop with the Bag" thing, when they bagged up your Bow Wows to go.

I'm not a hot dog aficionado by any stretch, but I do like real German sausages and natural casing hot dogs at certain hot dog only type restaurants in the area.

I've found you can pretty much cook the cheapest store brand hot dog on an open flame grill it it will still taste pretty good.

There's a new kid on the block, Johnsonville has recently (re)introduced "Butcher Shop Style" Products, and they are called Bratwurst.

In my local wally world this morning I spotted the Smoked Bratwurst, and Swisswurst, with Swiss Cheese, and I believe they also Have a Cheddar and Bacon. Not sure about other flavors, but can look on their website.

So, I bought a pack of the Smoked Bratwurst, these are all natural casing, hardwood smoked, no fllers, coarse grind, came 4 to a 14oz package, and are pretty big! Price was $3.87/pk.

While tastes vary, I myself like these a lot better than the Ball Park Franks I recently tried, and commented on earlier in this thread. I did 2 on the grill for lunch just earlier.

These taste something like a good smoked Kielbasa, and are about as close to the Johnsonville Smoked Frankfurters of old that I loved so much, and I believe I commented about earlier.

I think Johnsonville has a winner with these! Try them, and see what you think, and how you think they compare to the ballparks. Mark
