Just taken the plunge and ordered my Makita!

I know from talking to BenP that he's getting a different backing plate but what have other UK people done? I'm assuming that any US plates will be 5/8" thread as opposed to M14 (which I assume the Makita thread is).

Thanks gents :brit

Andy,

I'm also going to try out The Edge 2000 buffing system, but their "UK distributor" had no idea what I was talking about!

Ben,

Atomiza sell pads and they've got some good deals on right now. I'm passing having just ordereda load from here taking advantage of the various disocunts/offers going on!

I'm going to try to get my hands on a Megs backing plate though - is this similar to the PC ones (i.e. flexible)??

Andy, I've got two different Megs backing plates for my Makita... a 5" and 6". The products codes are SM-125 and SM-150. I've also got a couple of cheapies from www.toolstation.com.

If you want to take a look at my Megs backing plates, you're more than welcome - just have to arrange a time and a place.

If anyone ends up getting an Edge2000 14mm adaptor, could they get me one aswell and we can split the shipping costs etc.

That the one(s) listed as "velcro backing pads" Craig? If so I'll probably go for that initially as it APPEARS to be similar to the Meguiars - what are your thoughts/results?

The plate I have for my Clarke (now on ebay!) is solid, which might explain the carnage when I initially used it....

When I went to my local toolstation I was going to get the one that you mentioned ("velcro backing pads") but the velcro had fallen off in the plastic bag! So I decided against that one. The one I got from toolstation was the '117mm sponge backing pad' and I also got a solid one like yours from machinemart.

I used the solid one at the weekend and never had any problems with it. The Megs ones are pretty expensive, over £20 each.

Arse - I ordered the 2 different sized velcro ones. Will see if TS will change my order.

Actually, the sponge backing pad is what I bought with my Clarke and I found it too rigid compared to the PC ones I have - I'll go with this and see what happens.
