backing came off pads

not one , but two pads. Here is the kicker, after just one use. They were Lake Country

pads ordered from CMA. I did soak them for about 6 hours with a little snappy pad cleaner

went to use them a second time and flapped around till they came apart
 
I heard of this a few times from other folks that the LC pads from CMA have this problem. Don't know why, just call them at CMA to find out if they have a bad batch of pads. Next time order them from AG.
 
Maybe it has something to do with letting them soak in a solution for 6 hours. I thought you were only supposed to let the pads sit in that snappy pad cleaner for 5 - 15 minutes.



I've read you aren't supposed to soak your pads in dawn either. I guess it weakens the adhesive holding the velcro to the pad. I don't know. I clean my pads with hot water right after i use them, spin them on the machine for a second to get most of the water out, then let them air dry. I've never had problems with the backing coming off my pads.
 
IMO you shouldn't be soaking your pads after one use anyway. If you compounded the living mess out of something,yes, but other than that you shouldn't have to.
 
ALWAYS wash your pads after the first use, or any use matter of fact. You don't want old product to be caked in the foam.



Also, don't let them soak for 6 hrs! 15-20mins is sufficient.:nono



Lastly, just glue them back on with some gorilla glue.:dance
 
I have had the same issue with my pads from CMA. (with the blue backing) I've only had the PC for about a year and these are the only pads I have ever owned so I assumed they were all like that. Anyway, I have been using 3m spray adhesive on mine. I spray the backing piece and then spray just a little on the pad. I then put something with just enough weight on the pad (a ceramic tile or a light book) to keep constant pressure on it while the glue dies. This has worked very well for me.
 
I recall someone else had the same problem with LC Cma pads.....

just call Cma for replacement, good thing you didnt damage anything...

remember to follow the manuf on cleaning your pads....

i spray dawn power dissolver (find it at walmart) directly onto the pads and then let them sit for around 15 minutes, and then take them under a running hose (or bucket of water) and massage all the product out and it works great. doing it this way eliminates having to soak the pads in a bucket for a while...
 
The same thing happened to me last week. Two brand new white polishing pads from CMA delaminated and flew off the PC. I damn near scratched up my front bumper.



I talked to somebody in customer service and they sent me two brand new CCS pads instead of the VCP ones.
 
i dont think pads are meant for using it on the pc on speed 6. when i only had my pc, i constantly had to replace pads.. i went through about 1 a week! but now with the same pads on a rotary, its been months since i had to replace anything.. actually, i dont think i ever did replace any. the foam is wearing faster than the backing (which is tearing a little on the edges). i only use to pc on 5- now without much problems. i think it'll help if your backing plate covers the backing completely without any sticking out because thats where it would tear first.

Ive had LC pads that have sat in a bucket of water for 3 weeks with no adverse effects. In fact right now I have a few in a bucket in the garage that have been there for over a week. Soaking should not matter.
