I notified CMA about the Pad problem and I asked that they examine some from their current stock before sending replacements. They contacted me with the news that those they examined suffer from the same problem that I described and that they were going to contact the vendor.
 
Your observation has probably saved a lot of people from damaging their paint not to mention the Chenille mit reputation. Some may have questioned their products and techniques. We all owe you a thank-you, Maxshine. :up

The moral of this story is... Check all tools prior to use even if new or from a good vendor.
 
Hey guys, this one is a pretty old write up from back in my Genesis days. This was actually the first write up Ive ever done! so go easy on me, it was over a year ago! It was a huge transformation on an old Buick......here she is!


I wanted to try out my new Nikon D3000 and do my first real write-up. A couple of weeks ago I had one of my good clients contacted me about a Christmas present detail for his aunt who was comming down from Ohio and staying for a few days. This bad boy is in pretty good condition considering it is a 2002 and elderly taking care of. So from the drive down from Ohio to Tennessee it got a little dirty from the winter weather. This 2001 Buick LeSabre custom was here for a FULL inside & out detail and paint correction and it took over 15 hours to complete.

The client said he had tried everything to get the wheels clean and to get the brake dust off, but he never could get it all the way off!

So I got to work because I knew I had alot in store for the next few days!

After 2 foam baths with Dawn soap, letting the foam dwell for about 5-10 min to break up all the bad stuff and to strip what wax was on it off. Using a 100% sheep skin mitt to wash the car with then I cleaned the wheels with ShowCar Wheel bright to knock out that brake dust that had been caked on there for awhile. Sorry for no pics of the wash but here is how it looked after the wash.

I pulled it out into the sunlight inspecting what I had to work with. seeing LOTS of spider webing swirls DEEP scratches.

Alright, After checking out all that nastyness, I brought it back in and Clayed it with ONR clay lube with Automagic blue claybar and started preping the car for the polishing.

After taking a look at the paint up close under the lights you can see that the paint really needed some TLC.

I taped off the trunk and split it into two parts to show a 50/50 before and after shots.

While I was polishing with M105 I got to try out the new Megs W66 backing plate(Which is awsome!) and the new LC Hydrotech Cyan pad! (also AWSOME!) I began to correct the paint

I used a few different pad combos to cut the hard stuff
M105/LC Hydrotech Cyan
M105/LC Purple foamed wool

Here are some scratches that were pretty bad and needed wetsanded, So I took some 2000 grit sandpaper and gave it a smooth rub down

So after a little elbow grease and buffing and polishing, it turned out like this!

Haha! j/k, those write-ups will come later. thats a Peterbilt 379 that we detailed......but anyways back to the Buick

After all the Buffing dust getting everywhere......Gotta love that M105, I took it back to the washbay and done a quick wash with a microfiber towel, brought it back over to the detail side and bloched it dry with a microfiber towel. now the whole car was Polished out with a FLEX 3401 and LC Hydrotech Tangerine with megs M205

Then every square inch of the car was coated in a layer of Opti-Seal and left to cure for about 12 hours. And then a Layer of Dodo Juice Blue Velvet was applied by a foam applicator to give that nice deep wet look to the paint

Hey, nice job on the Buick. What do you think of your D3000? I have one I bought a few months ago. What lens are you using with it? Do you shoot in auto or do you play around with the settings? How many hours in total on the car? I'll share one thing I do after generating compounding dust is that I just do an ONR wash. Saves moving the car and it can be done so quickly. Sometimes only part of the car needs it too so that saves time.

Yeah, I dont even think i had ever heard of ONR back then, lol. but yeah that is some very handy stuff.

and for the Nikon D3000 I love it! I wish I would have bought the D5000 just so I could shoot video too. but I just put it on Auto w/o flash and let it do all the work.
