B&D Firestorm RO sander

I have a previous model. Does work but you need lots of patience. Therefore I use my Makita 9227C on swirls instead. 1000-1500 rpm start and then hit it with 2500 to 3000... (Some guys with lots of b**ls do it with full speed but no, I don't carry that big of a bunch)

I've had my eye on that sander as wellbecause I don't want to spend so much on a PC...its specs are pretty good (4 amps, 4000-12000 OPM) as long as it is kept from 4000-6000. THe previous thread questioned its orbital throw, so I'm gonna call B&D and find out...Ill post what I find.

And what we call a 'PC' may soon have to be called a 'BD or 'DW'. With Black & Decker / DeWalt buying Porter Cable and Delta, there are going to be some changes in what tool lines are under what brand. I was talking to my rep (I sell black & decker, porter cable, etc.) and apparently there is going to be a complete realignment over the next year. I'm not even putting any porter cable or delta in my incentive programs this year because there will be so many changes.

You're welcome. I just found out that the orbital throw of the Firestorm is 5 millimeters, 2.5 in each direction. If anyone knows if that's good or bad please chime in.

EDIT--the PC has a throw of 5/32 inches, but I'm not sure if that is in each direction or just one. Regardless, this sander seems pretty close.

It will work pretty good. The pad throw is sufficient, because a smaller throw means that is is finishing better. It'll be slower, though. Other issue is that you can not use a flexible backing plate with it. Choose thick pads and you're okay. And use speed 6 for all corrective work.
