Axel rust

I know you posted that you tried a wire brush but have you tried a wire wheel or brass wheel on a electric drill yet. Pick up a couple from harbor frieght or a local big box hardware store. Please don't forget to wear eye protection and a long sleve shirt wouldn't be a bad idea.

thanks Paul.Yes I do have a drill and wire brush and havent tried that yet on the threads.

I do wonder if my 25 year old drill even works. :DHavent used it in years!Maybe I will tackle this today.

The bigger problem is getting into the center area where the rust is actually not just surface and begun to eat through. Its a very tight area to get into.

Thanks for the picture Rasky. Maybe the picture and my eyes are deceiving me but it looks to me like the rust is still there.

If you had seen how it looked before you'd know what I was talking about. ;)

I was mostly joking about using it though as I don't know if there are and side effects from using it in this matter. I was just bored one day and wanted to see what it would do to the car. ;)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Ive been busy sandblasting and it worked beautifully.I was worried I might mess up the threads but the threads look fine. Then I painted it black with the krylon" rust tough" paint.

Im so happy to get that project done!:dance1

NowI just have to figure out some Jerry riig caps to protect them and I will be done with it!

Axel rust drive me NUTS!!!. No cure that I've ever found other then paint; and then it still tends to come back. Axel Rust is TOUGH STUFF!! Especially if you live on the coast

Try living in Ohio where they throw tons of salt down to melt the snow on the roads ... talk about a concentrated salt undercarriage wash :yikes:

The rust has not came back except for some surface rust on the threads.:rockon
I am careful not to get it wet and if I do I dry it off. Also very little rain here helps!

Ever hear of Por-15? Rust inhibitor....to my knowledge, you can put it right over rusted areas; doesn't need to be 100% clean of rust.
