Axel rust

Ive got rust on the Axel threads and suroundings .My vehicle is just over 2 years old and I think its odd that this is happening already. It also seems like there should be a cap to protect it?

Anyway I dont like how this looks and want to repair it.Any good new rust remover products out?I tried wd40 and 3M scotchbrite on the threads and it did nothing.

I should have done this when I painted my wheels but I was too impatient to get them done!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Scrub with scotch pad and look for a rust converter.
Rust converter stops oxidation leaving a black protective coating.
(and you can paint also :) )

Normal condition wire brush as mentioned and paint better then the rust showing for sure . Even though it's surface rust over time it can damage the threads and make it a little harder to remove the nut holding the axle in and in extreme conditions when you go to remove the nut it can remove some of the threads on the way off .

Thanks everyone for your advice .

Ive got a wire brush and also bought some

rust-olem rust stripper. They didnt have the Rust-oleum paint so I went with Krylon "rust tough enamel".

I already have wheel covers ,just no center caps.:inspector: I hope you guys didnt think have a detailing business and drive around with rusted wheels exposed!;)

Yes DanF Im sure the lovely ocean air has helped the situation, you think I didnt think of that? The real problem lies in no center cap to protect it though.:bigups

Ive attempted to sand the rust now a couple times and its been difficult to remove because I cant get my fingers in there in the center portion. Ive tried a few different methods...sanding pen, screw driver with scotchbrite wrapped around it ,folded sandpaper......the rust remover doesnt work very well .

I have a sandblaster and Im thinking that may be the best way to completely remove the rust.

Of course I would mask the surrounding area.

Can anyone think of why it may not be a good idea to sandblast?

There is a cap for that. What make and model do you drive?
I already went to the dealership and the caps they had didnt fit .He even came outside with me and tried to put one on. They sent me somewhere else and they didnt have anything either.

It a Toyota Sienna .

This project is not going very well !:D

Here's the quarter panel on my Luda after some IronX. I don't have any before pics but there was rust staining running down the bumper and you can see bare metal where the hole is. What's crazy is that I wiped it with a old MF towel to agitate the area and it was hot from the chemical reaction. :D

Get it as clean as possible and paint it black.

Problem solved. ;)
Trust me ,in my frustration that thought crossed my mind several times!:D

But my years spent working in bodyshops reminds me even one speck of rust and it will be back in just a few months .

Rust is evil!

Thanks for the picture Rasky. Maybe the picture and my eyes are deceiving me but it looks to me like the rust is still there.
