i heard they wont go near it if u touch it, something to do with your oils and smell

That's actually a misconception similar to how you shouldn't put a baby bird back in the nest.



Chances are in either situation the mother is nearby (birds have very good eyesight) and notices that a potential predator is near the nest or the hatchling, so in the interest of safety she will have to move on.
