Been through that hail deal, got caught in a microburst. Got both my truck and my wife's car, parked a few blocks apart, at the same time. We were newly married and she had an 84 Pontiac 6000, it was totaled. We bought it back for a bit of nothing and a friend and I fixed it up. We turned around and sold it. My truck was a beautiful 79 Ford 4X4. I was able to quickly get into the parking lot and drive my truck into the shop. It still got hit. Spent a great deal of time on the body work to make it once again perfect, did it once again with the help of a friend. The insurance company paid fairly given the year of the vehicle but it barely covered the costs even with us doing the work. Kept it for quite some time. I had a new respect for hail.

Can't wait to see a Tesla Model X in person:

I wonder how this will do as an actual SUV (rocks hitting the bottom) and crossing 2 foot deep rivers or mud pits... Somehow I just feel like there will be issues with regenerative breaking when going off road (sand dunes, ocean water, etc).

Probably does not do well at all, but that doesn't matter and wont hurt their sales just because of how SUVs are used - only about 15-20% of SUVs go offroad.
