Autopia Buffing Cloth

Today, for the first time in weeks, I hand-washed my Black Santa Fe. Previously, I had used Poorboy's Spray and Wipe with outstanding results.

The car has had the Mother's Phase 1 and 2 followed with 3x S100. A QD with ClearKote's Quik Shine made the car look teriffic - until I unwraped the Autopia Buffing Cloth that came in the mail today.

Boy, the tactile feel of the Buffing Cloth is almost sinful. Buffing the car with the new cloth made a material difference in the shine and depth of the S100 on the car! Being obsesive/compulsive, I almost put another coat of S100 on the car, but it looks just fine just as it is!

"Sinful" is a great word to describe the feel of the Autopia Concours Buffing Towel; it's incredible! When used with QD it produces no smears or streaks and I have discovered it can be used w/o any product to remove light dust. It actually picks up the dust; doesn't just move it around. Following the instructions David provides with the towels, I washed & dried mine first, but did not experience any linting. The other big plus of this towel is that it is the perfect size, not too big or small.

This towel is perfect. I like it so much, I just ordered 3 more.

I got my two towels yesterday and they are sitting in my dryer until I get home. The linting was pretty bad when I pulled them out of the package. But, I expected that. They are very soft and very well made. I have to QD or possibly wax my car tonight, so I will definitely try them out.

I should have ordered more of these wonderful towels. The size is just right -- big enough to fold and turn multiple times, small enough to be easily manageable and not drag on the ground. The instructions David sends with the product are excellent. I did not experience the linting he warns may happen initially. I've used them now with QDs and glazes, and they are just great. In the past, I've had some problems with streaking after using Zaino's QD, both with a cotton towel and with microfibers; that has not happened since I started using this wonderful towel. Also, this towel feels so wonderfully soft! Gadfly's "almost sinful" is an apt description of the feel of the Concours Buffing Towel.

I've used my buffing towel a couple of times and here are my observation so far.

The Pros:

This towel is amazingly soft, it glides over the paint very easily. It is very effective removing your favorite QD and doesn't leave any reside or streaking and requires minimal effort. The size is just right as everyone else has mentioned and it can easily wipe the whole car down without getting too damp. It feels great on your hands too.

The Cons:

I'm experiencing major snags with my cloth and have had to cut many of them off with scissors regularly. I did wash mine before the first use but I am still experiencing some linting. The linting is unique, rather than small 1/8" hairs caused by an MF I'm getting long thin strands about 1.5" length. I washed the towel again (third time) and will try it again to see if it helps and will update.

I'm getting the snags too. I think David's instructions warned that they would snag on metal edges and such. I just clip 'em out after washing. Hasn't changed my praise about the towels, though; I just ordered 2 more last night.

BlackRegal,

I never really thought about that, but it certainly could be the cause. I starting cutting the snags for a couple of reasons. At first I didn't cut them and noticed that the same snags were getting larger and larger and starting hanging up on various trim pieces. I had the same fear that it would unravel so I cut them.

I also remember seeing a post somewhere that DavidB recommended using scissors to cut the snags.:nixweiss I hope I'm not mistaken.

I think I saw it mentioned in another thread, but I believe it's worth noting again that the ACBT (Autopia Concours Buffing Towel) has terry loops on both sides of the towel, unlike all of my poly MF towels. The ACBT is certainly more expensive than poly MFs, but worth every penny, IMO, as they are larger, and both sides are extremely plush.

Hey, Gadfly, for the sake of folks who'll search this topic, could you change the subject heading of the thread to reflect the correct name of the towel? :up

I would like to make a usage note on the CBT. I never intended for the CBT to be a general purpose detailing towel. It's specific job is final buffing and quick detailing.

I have a dozen of the towels in personal use. I have snags on two of the towels. I removed the snags with sissors. Some of the towels do seem to lint longer than others, but it will stop. It is a manufacturing problem. The fabric makes a huge amount of lint when cut. This is why they have a binding on the edge.

If you have a defective towel, I will replace it. Remember, I warranty the towels. If you're not happy with your towels, I will refund your purchase.

David,

Good that you stand behind the products you sell.:up

I have noticed that after the third wash linting has reduced significantly however not gone completely. If this towel can hold up to 6 months worth of regular use then it is a great value and you can certainly bet I'll be ordering more.:)

I hope I'm using mine correctly, I've only used it for final wipedown with QD after polishing and waxing. I also used it to wipe the car down after a drive, does that sound about right?

David, good idea to remind folks the CBTs are just for buffing and final detailing. I'm completely thrilled with the 5 I have now. Only problem is that they feel so good, I want to use them for everything. Edit: OK. I confess. I want to try using one after a shower. :D But I've been able to restrain myself, so far, to use them for QDing and buffing off Zaino & wax.

I have been using my CBT's now for about 2 weeks for buffing off sealant and QD'ng and can say nothing beats this towel! No smearing or streaking with QD and sealant removal is very easy. Final results are very good; kinda reminds me of a "jeweler's cloth". Some of my towels lint more than others, and I have also experienced some snagging due to my own carelessness on trim edges. Cutting with scissors has had no adverse effects. The CBT towel is one of my best detailing arsenal investments.

This weekend I finally had the chance to use the Autopia CBT with my Zaino regimen (QD'ing, then buffing-off Z2, then QD'ing again). In the past 8 months of using Zaino, there's always been some frustration, whether I've used a MF or a good cotton terry towel. But David's towel is a dream come true. I was able to focus on the product, not the tool. No streaking, no questions, just easy gliding and clean removal. Boy-oh-boy! This towel is exactly what I have needed!

I found that they worked better after a couple of washings. I had some linting issues after the first washing. I love them for buffing Quik Shine. I may have to invest in a couple more just to have around. They are incredibly soft. My car doesn't have any sharp edges to catch on, so I haven't had any threads come out yet.

I purchased a couple from David a few weeks back, but I keep forgetting to wash them. After all the raves I've read, you can be sure I'll be doing some laundry tonight.
