AUTOMAGIC - #90 XP Swirl Remover?

Has anyone tried #90 XP Swirl Remover? I would just like to know how aggressive it really is, should I use Rotary or PC? Polishing or Finishing pad?



I am just learning to use the rotary, it's a beast!
 
I don't hear anything about auto magic products on the forums, yet quite a few detailers in my area use it! they also use collinites insulator waxes like crazy.
 
XP Swirl Remover is not aggressive at all. I'd recommend using White Magic if you are looking for a good swirl remover/wax from Auto Magic.



Edit: And you should use a finishing pad for either PC or rotary with these. You can also use a light polishing pad with the White Magic, but I usually use a blue finishing pad.
 
I use it, It's not a aggresive polish at all. Its in the green on their scale. It does more filling then correcting, i think. I use it on wholesale and dealer cars when all they want is a 1 or 2 step cut and polish. I wouldn't use it on the retail end.
 
I also use triple seven, my favorite apc so far. Looking to try PB's BIO APC.

#49 is also a very nice product, I used this to clay.



My reason for Picking up XP SR was not for bigger jobs. for light duty jobs.



I still have not tried it, But I'm hoping I could use 2.5 or #83, then Use XP to take care of any marring, while leaving a glossy waxed finish. Or maybe just xp on a new car, followed by another wax.



the only other product I used like this was PB's PwC. I'm hoping XP SR is a little more abrasive.
 
Body Shine is a great clay lube. It doesn't quite have a wet gloss like some quick detailers, but it is cheap and good for high volume use.



Again, XP Swirl Remover is not at all abrasive and it's filling properties are little to none. I have used it and really was not happy with the results given many of the other comparable products I have tried. Even for a high volume shop or wholesale work, I would stick with White Magic at a 1-step.
 
I use it (XP Swirl) with the cyclo and the AM polish(yellow) pads. Works beautiful. And at 24$ per gallon, it cannot be beat. Agree with Todd about the blue soft polish pad on the rotary at 1000 RPM. Do not buff it dry. Work it to a nice haze then hand wipe it off. I use it after I have to use the XP compound with wool cut pads and it does the job.

I disagree that it is not a good one step. It is nice on late model vehicles with light spider web and car wash scratches. But I ususally, out of habit, grab my bottle of BC-2 for those type of finishes.

I do not think that Auto Magic makes a bad polish. I have tried them all and have always had great results. It all depends on the end user though. I have alot of the high end boutique products and have never noticed end results any better than we get with the Auto Magic line. Was a sucker for fancy names and packaging when we first started years ago. Natural ingredients, beeswax, cross linking, blah blah!! LOL

I will say one thing for sure though, the boutique stuff sure does smell better!!

I tend to avoid XP Swirl Remover. If you cut/polish correctly, you'll never need it. As far as XP SW as a 1-step, BC-2 and/or White Magic is much better. More cut and works out swirls the same, if not better. You're right about Rick Schmidt being a mad man with a rotary. Amazing in person.

Anytime I have ever used a rotary with a wool pad and an aggressive compound, swirls will be there. If you have a technique using the rotary that does not leave swirls, please let me know!

I agree that BC-2 is a better one step. I use it often. I do think that the XP does a nice job though.

I hope more folks here get a chance to check out BC-2. It is a legendary product among folks who have used Auto Magic products!

Aggressive compounds are 1 thing, and yes, swirls will be there. But, I have a hard time believing that XP Swirl Remover will *remove* compound/wool pad marks without using an additional product 1st. I can (and do) use almost ever AM mid range polish/glaze(all except New Car Glaze!) with a wool pad and achieve almost zero swirls. Proper technique is key. I usually foam pad (usually with BC-2) after to insure a 100% swirl free finish and to create a deeper finish. I guess it all depends on the system you're use to.

would you say XP Swirl remover is about the same as meguires #9 SR in abrasiveness?



because I don't thing #9 is very abrasive at all, doesn't really tackle much.
 
I have a sample of GS-1 from our AM rep that I am still waiting to try out. I have heard good things as well (from David) but I am still in wonder by White Magic. I never even touch the XP SR anymore. I do not use wool pads any more (still not converted), but I often finish clean with a foam pad using AM polishes as well.



I was told by my AM rep that XP SR is a fairly new product and was only developed to compete with the "other" swirl removers in the professional product category (#9). He had even recommended to me to use White Magic instead of SR because it was only made for people that were looking for a specifically named 'swirl remover' and that it is hardly abrasive.
 
How are automagic polishes as far as dusting? such as White Magic etc?

I am getting tired of taping moldings, do they stain black trim?
 
They don't dust much at all really if used correctly. The real key to working with any of the Auto Magic products is to use a modest amount and buff wet. If they start to dry, spray a little Body Shine onto the surface and it re-activates the product. They aren't a "dual action" product like Menzerna so the characteristics that you get from your 1st pass won't change as you buff as long as you don't over buff (the products doesn't break down). I like using White Magic with wool alot and it's a great 1 step product, but BC-2 with allow you to create the best finish prior to your LSP.



As far as moldings go, I tape them no matter what product I'm using. If an AM product gets splattered on a molding by accident, I comes off really easy with a detail brush.
 
HaHa. I've seen Animal Chin many times! Don't you mean Powell-Peralta or Powell? They aren't together any more. I'm definately more old school.
