Auto Detailing Lesson by KC - public awareness & education

I wash my black lexus once a week. However, I live in the desert southwest so it is very dusty here. My question is what is best to do in between washings. Is it safe to use a California Car Duster everyday or is it better to use a QD (Final Inspection) and a Charisma/MF towel? Or use both? Any suggestions is appreciated.

BTW, I am planning on using Klasse but I don't want to get it until Blackfire is out. I wish I could try Klasse first since I don't want to get a lot if the other brand turns out better. I am using Zymol right now and just trying to finish the bottle. Any idea if Blackfire will be out early or late November?

How about the price?

Thanks again.:)

Hi neomatrix,

You may want to try reading threads below such as this one. Personally, I wouldn't QD or "dust" a car that isn't 100% clean, but many here are not of the same opinion. In any case, use a lot of care with whatever you do. If you use a Cali Car Duster, do it with a very light touch. If you QD the car, use a very plush MF towel (try cma or www.yosteve.com for the best) and FI or any other quality QD. Turn the towel often, be very light with your touch.

Do both! You can dust as often as you like but, as mentioned, do it with a very light touch. And use common sense. There is a difference between dusty and dirty. It's always a good idea to dust before you QD even with microfiber towels.

Final Inspection QD is ok, but others such as EF Clear Pearl or Wizards Mist-n-Shine are much better. Especially on a black car.

With regard to Calif Car duster:

I have black car - it shows EVERYTHING. If you aren't careful, you can get scratching from the the duster. BUT, if you follow these guidelines, I have had great success with it, and no scratching:

1) Make sure your car has excellent fresh wax or polymer protection on it and your paint is in good shape. You can only brush the dust off if it isn't adhered.

2) Don't try to wash a dirty car with this thing. If it has rained, or you have tree sap all over, don't use it. Use it ONLY for light dusting.

3) Support the weight of the handle so that the fibers are only dragging with their own weight, no more.

4) Stroke front-to-back on the horizontal sections, up and down on the vertical ones. (This minimizes the appearance of any potential scratches. )

5) Use detail spray <strong class='bbc'>after[/b] the brush. This will get any remaining dust, add some shine, and help keep the surface slick for the next time.

As the others stated before, try using both procedures. I do both and would never think of abandoning either the dusting or quick detailing. Laters.

I often use compressed nitrogen to blow off unadhered dust before QDing. It comes in about a 5' cylinder. It is non flamable, cleaner than the air from your typical home compressor and a $25 refill lasts me about 9 months if I remember to shut the valve off after each use. Attached to the nitrogen bottle is a 25' hose with a quick disconnect at the far end for a shraeder fill chuck and a pistol style airgun and a 3' extendo airgun. Oh, one more plus is that it is much quieter than a compressor. Anyhoo that's my 2 1/2 cents worth. :)

started with
ROB

2010_03200057.JPG

tada ...less than minutes upgraded to Rotary, although is dangerous in the hand of beginers...with the correct guidance...u too can do it

he's too 1st timer

2010_03200061.JPG

.when i brought all the above machine...no body was there to guide me & explaine...i brought what i tot is the most value for $....buying one after another ......ended up buying the everything.....

eg

I tot..i can detail by Rob....swirls & RIDS
2010_03200054.JPG

only rotary has the cutting power
see the 50/50..as the RIDs is too severe & fequently swirls up by road side car wash

kc, congratulations on what looked like a well attended, successful demo. That type of thing is great for the business - shows what a pro can do and also shows the public how it's done. Many will probably still leave it to a pro like yourself but some may be contacting Angelo Monday morning!!!

Bravo.

thanks budddy.....yes it is a good publicity & well attended

but the very reason i did it so to bring public awareness...eg

even the 1st timer..hands on rob & rotary...although is just the 1st attempt....with proper guidance ....passer by actually learnt how to do it...

Thanks for yr constant encouragement... my passion is still spreading the fire of detailing:blacksmith:

Managed to catch up with the owner of the demo car yesterday after a short rain shower. Some nice water beading shots and partial sun shot.
