Auto-correcting Your Typing of Punctuation within this Forum

Some of you have noticed that your apostrophe is missing when you post a response from contracted words like "dont" , "its", "theres", "cant", etc. Do NOT be alarmed!! Its not you. Its the "fix" that the Autopian programmers have come up with to work-around the syntax error 108 which EVERYONE has seen on posts that makes them inaccessible and unable to view. When ever an apostrophe is typed in the title of a new post, it has caused this error, and now the typing program within this forum has automatically removed this offending punctuation from all typed wording.

While I commend this forums Admins for "fixing" this problem, it makes my command of the English language look like an uneducated buffoon or that I lack the proper typing skills needed to convey my thoughts (both accurate assessments/characterizations of my usage and abilities!). I say this because my Mother was an English teacher , whom I had in high school for my Junior year class, and she would be appalled if she read some of my typed posts and remark, "Thats NOT what I taught you in MY class".

I only say this to defend myself (and yours) to put blame where blame is due. I wish the Admins would have informed us Autopians that this was being done; either that , OR I did not get the memo that was sent out.

In the mean time, we will all have to mentally insert the apostrophe as needed in the appropriate typed contractions (like its for it is) and possessive first person nouns as we read these posts.

This post and subsequent typed response may get me banned by the Admins of this forum, but it is no excuse in my mothers eyes, and she would have sent to the principals office and put on detention being an English teachers son who (supposedly) knows (types?) better. (Think classic 80s movie, "The Breakfast Club")

Yeah, I noticed this too. Thought I was doing something wrong and it never came out right. Hope they fix it or the general public is going to think Autopians are a bunch of illiterate car washers. :)

Just for kicks I might try to avoid the need for apostrophes for a while. Possessives will be tricky, but avoiding contractions should not be all *that* hard even if it does make the post sound stilted.

Eh, bugs me when writers do not use apostrophes, just not a natural expression of American English without them. I have only known a handful of people who avoided them IRL and those people were just as insufferable as their diction prompted me to expect.

I am still in a quandary/befuddled/in a funk WHY this one punctuation mark would cause a syntax problem in a program and if I knew Id let the Admins a heads-up/suggestion what to do, but, alas, I do not. SOOOO the easiest "fix" is to eliminate the offending punctuation.

One "solution" is to use an "alternate/substitute" punctuation mark for the apostrophe so its would look like it-s OR it"s, but we Autopians still look like car washing illiterates, according to Dave Fermani.

The other is to offer a reward to some programming-literate/savvy Autopian for coming up with a fix or solution.
Wait..... Accumulator taught programming, but that was when they used BASIC as the programming language... never mind!.

Heh heh, yeah...the languages/packages I knew are ancient history! My wife still remembers the days doing all her coding in binary.

The penny and the apostrophe, your days are numbered
Remarks like that will undo one of our founding father|s, Ben Franklin, epic frugal admonition of "A penny saved is a penny earned." (OK, the "|" substituted for an apostrophe looks downright unintelligent; AKA stupid!)

Test: Won`t

Is it replacing the apostrophe for a "|" character for you?

It should be replacing the apostrophe for a back quote character.

Thanks Vega for fixing the fix. Sorry to get so riled up about a trifle (but missing) punctuation in this forum.
My high School English teach (AKA my mom) would commend you for finding substitute typing symbol that looks like an apostrophe.

Now, about that penny..................

Ok good to hear! I was worried it wasn`t working on certain cell phones.

This is still a temporary fix, but I think the closest we can get to an apostrophe.

I (myself) manually typed in the "|" in place of the "`" just see how it looks, hence my unintelligent remark.
Now I see why Accumulator said it`s fixed.
It`s working, it`s working, it`s working (kind of). Thank you, Vega and your forum Admin and programming team.
