Oh, yeah that's exactly what happened, it went through automatic washes several times... in fact the one he said he used is the most expensive and supposedly "upscale" car wash in town :scared:
 
That poor lady had seen better days, and it looks like Charlie really brought her back to life! Amazing how the paint looks now that the flake is really coming though :D

A question about the bird bomb etching. I recently worked on a car which had a bad bird etching near the windshield at the top of the hood and numerous bad lovebig etches which appeared to me to be too deep for polishing. How can you differentiate which can be sanded out and which are just too far gone?



Amazing work on the car though. Why do you think the SIP gave you better results than the 105 and UNO? Do you find that tendency on Porsches?



(sorry for the rapid fire questions. I really like all your write ups and want to kind of get inside your head a bit so I can learn)

In this case it came down to a few things. First, in some of the areas where there was etching my PTG was telling me the paint was between 10-20 microns thinner than the other panels and/or parts of panels which told me the car was most likely buffed aggressively at some prior time in its life as well. Also as I was sanding over those areas I was able to tell that the etching was quite deep (the low spots showed themselves once the gloss was knocked off the top) and between that and the PTG readings, I went only as far as I felt comfortable with.

Thanks! To be honest I don't have a clue why SIP worked so much better than the other polishes I tried... I've never seen 105 react the way it did on this car (flash drying hard as a rock after a single pass).

Outstanding job! In particular the carpet was a stunning fix. I know how hard it can be to save that grey Porsche rug!
