Audi -- Aluminum inlays vs. wood

Yakky- Yeah, I hear ya...easier to obtain 'em than it is to find the right buyer. That's a nice upgrade for you on the B7 cars though.

Heh heh, I was gonna buy an S4/S6 Avant to replace the MPV and then we would've been even again, but I ended up with a (very) used Tahoe instead... decided to go with the practicality of that big old thing since we already have enough fun-to-drive stuff. And maybe I'll feel less obligated to keep the "second dog-truck" as nice as I would another Audi :D

You say you can "polish" the wood's clear (Varnish/laquer??) a few times? How do you do that? IE, what products and methodologies do you use??

Yeah, I was thinking hard about an Avant but the deals are hard to find on those. RS6 Avant is one of my dream cars. So now that I have the B7S4, I'm more inclined to join your DBW complaint camp. Its pretty bad in this car, almost impossible to drive it smooth.

I've used lots of stuff in the medium-to-mild range, from my old 3M PI-III MG 05937 to M80, to various 1Z polishes, always by hand. The clear on the wood is presumbably very thin, so I've always taken it easy and that's almost always meant stopping short of complete correction, but I've been able to make things a lot better. The guys at Stoddard's bodyshop have implied that I could get more aggressive than I have, but I'd rather err on the side of caution so these days I do more filling/concealing than true correction.

Wonder if that's why it got traded so soon. Also wonder if some aftermarket stuff might improve it, I've seen some ad-copy that sounded promising, but...well, you know....I haven't tried any such stuff on the S8 (yet). That one A6 4.2 I had, the one Stoddard bought back, was so bad it was downright dangerous, hope your S4 isn't that bad. Is it tip or stick?
