ATV Fender Scratch Question????

cwcad

New Normal
A friend of mine has a year old King Qaud Suzuki 700 ATV that has been used but not abused. The fenders have a good amount of scratches on them from normal use.

The fenders are plastic but are painted(I think). Is the paint on these fenders going to react the same as the paint on my Chevy truck? Do the fenders when poured into the mold come out this terrible green color. I think that they are painted after they are formed but I am not real knowledgeable in this area.

I have the whole line of Menzerna products as well as the whole line of Poorboy's products to use to work on the scratches. Or is there some other product that I should be using on the plastic painted fenders?

You don't have a pic, do you?
They could be powder coated or mold painted, but they probably are a single stage or b/c paint.
You can experiment, going from light to heavier polishes.
I'm interested to see what other say.

I don't think that they are painted. You could try Menzerna or PBs but IMO the only way to get scrates out of ATV plastics is by sanding it down. You can just get some sand paper and go at it or there is a product called Plastic Renew, where they send you some sanding paper and when the surface is how you want it, you apply this liquidy chemical (like a sealant) and then the shine is restored. It is very time consuming and rough on the hands but PM me if you are interested.

I don't think ATV fenders are painted. I believe they are color molded - molded out of the color plastic that the mfg. wants the finished product. I don't have any scientific info to back this up or anything, just my guesstimation.

Brenton,

Thanks for the response. No I do not have pictures because it was talked about over the phone.

Budman3,

Now that I am working fulltime some thing that is laborious and time consuming is not something that I am interested in. As soon as he goes into the woods it will be in the same condition as it is now. I will try to use the products that I have. Will take pictures when I get back to my friends house to see how it will work.

I think that you are correct. It does look to be a molded color process.
Will do what I can with what I have.

Thanks all of you for your information and opinions.

I have a color molded hood on my John Deere, and use their polish (I think it has soy oil in it). It polishes out the chalk/scratch marks pretty well, and a coat of glaze/wax will hide/improve what's left. If you use the PC keep it at or below 4 -by hand is the safe route.
