At the carwash today I saw....

....so I'm at the quarter carwash today and I see some guy pull up in a green subaru, get out, then toss his plastic floor mats onto his hood and windshield so he could clean them:scared :shocked . I flinched to say the least. Then recoiled in fear preparing to defend my truck to the death with my Meguiar's Vinly and Rubber protector if he came near.... :angry

Anyone else have good CARWASH OF HORROR SIGHTINGS?

hehehe (i'm bored) :)

What about seeing someone drying his black jeep cherokee under direct sunlight with some old t-shirts.

Imagine the water streaks but worst of all the swirls that he was creating.

To end it short, I heard him tell his wife this is a waste of time and they got in their cherokee and went home. Last comment he made before he left was, "I am never going to do this again". :D

Oh, and I see people using the foaming brushes all the time over their ENTIRE vehicle....oh man almost makes me sick...lol I did that once over a year ago the first time I washed my truck (didn't know anything at all)....and man did I learn fast.. :P

The other day I was driving by a glass shop that also seems to do some sort of body work and I saw a dude out front washing a 2k+ Maxima. He was using a scrub brush with a long handle to scrub the paint. I had to stop right in front of them for the light and I was trying to mutter loudly enough for him to hear that he was literally destrying the car...

The self service car wash by me sells Brillo Pads, from my asking the sales clerk I gather they sell quite a lot of them too

Seeing someone use a Brillo Pad on a barand new rim makes me just wonder what the hell does that person do for a living?

withing the last month (at the scene of the above Crime) I also watched a guy wax a brand new 350Z in the baking sun , picture this, its over 90F and he did the entire car before Buffing. To make it even more sad when I looked over at what he was using it was a Can Of Simoniz (SP?) at least a decade old.

I never confront these people, I just say there but for the grace of god.....

I saw a kid this winter use a window sqweegy on his black, riced out civic at a carwash. . .imagine the swirls on that, oh did I mention that it snowed earlier that morning. . .

horror!

I saw the guy at the car wash that uses the broom to scrub your wheels, wash the whole car with it before any water touched the car. He was washing away salt from the winter.

It was awful. I just cringed!

Glad I had a light lunch today after reading thses posts!

My sighting is fairly mild: Guy with new Lexus washes his car with a metal bucket placed on the trunk of the car  God knows what he uses for soap? Clorox?

Also saw two people today get out of a car, a guy throws his Burger King lunch on the roof and the woman throws her big, buckle-ridden purse on the roof

Needless to say I cringed big time during both occassions!

I was helping a friend wash/wax his brand new WRX (silver). First I tell him I'm starting to do detailing and he says "that's stupid, it's just wash and wax." No point in explaining... he'll never get it... as he proceeded with his genius idea for getting bugs and tar off the paint...

wait for it...

yep, the rough side of a scotch-brite pad (or whatever those two sided pads are called)... takes them right off. :scared :scared

He even said "Scratches the clear coat, but don't need it anyway, cause I'm gonna wax it"

I suppose the $2-3k or so he wants to spend on new rims and tires will distract from the scratched paint a little.

Once saw a neighbor/friend washing his car with a bucket of water and dawn, a yellow rubber glove, a yellow kitchen sponge. Sounds pretty bad but here's the kicker....the car was dry when the soap was applied!!! :scared

the power rinse/pressure wash function is great for dirt and stuff in the wheel wells after offroading. But I don't use it for anything else...:nono

I use it in the winter. I finally have a garage this year though.

Previously after ice storms I'd take it in, since the heated water will take it all off very nicely, and is good where the dirt/snow/ice gets collected up in the wheel well and the undercarraige.

As far as letting the automatic wash touch it... no way

mlebarron...another Metro-West guy...I am out in Framingham...this past weekend the line was around the corner for the Scrub A Dub out by Autozone on Rt. 9 :nono

I didn't see this, but my wife did. She stopped at a gas station to fill up the car. While she was there, a guy in a nice red Corvette like mine (so an '84-90) pulled up. She thought it was nice but sort of dirty. Well, the guy fixed that. He started washing his windows with the gas station spongie/squeegie. As he looked at his now clean windows, he suddenly struck upon an idea. He started to wipe down his entire car with the thing, squeeged it off, and with a very satisfied look tossed it back in the container and drove off. Needless to say she was dumbfounded.

Im in shock that so many of you guys are even in a commercial car wash......

hahaha yeah - I have to go there because I'm not allowed to wash my vehicle outside at my apartment complex. :nixweiss So I go put in quarters, rinse, fill my bucket, use my bucket, and rinse off. Then I hog the bay to stay out of the sun and dry it. Works pretty well and is cheap. The hot rinse and hot soapy water are great for getting grime off after offroading I have to say. Plus their vacuum-cleaners are awesome! :xyxthumbs

ps: the guy who owns the carwash complimented me on my truck yesterday..hehe...and this is before I get my Klasse/S100 combo on there!

JonnyOzero3,

I can work on my car outside my apartment, but have limited access to a hose, so I also frequent the spray bay and do a hand wash with my bucket, their rinse. To save the hassle of filling my bucket from a high pressure sprayer, I take a plastic 5-gal gas can full of water along with me. I still use two cycles (a pre-wash pressure rinse, and a rinse and spot-free rinse after the wash), and as long as there's no one waiting in line, the folks that manage the car wash don't seem to mind.

Yup the owner of the carwash told me he didn't mind either as long as I wasn't creating a line - he was a nice guy...but his black jeep was kinda dirty....ironic isn't it?

Did it look anything like this?

crappywax2.jpg

My neighbor used an entire can of wax on his truck (Autopia old timers will remember this!), and then let it sit on the paint all afternoon....then it rained. He didn't even try to remove the excess wax until the next day.

As you can see, 3 days later, there was still wax residue on the car.

For some reason my nieghborhood os full of people that think leaving the wax on all day, even driving around with it on before buffing is a good idea

Makes you wonder
