As of August 2007, what is consensus on the BEST type of wash mitt?

We always have these huge wash mitt threads...



I use a Target blue micro-chenille mitt with my ONR washes. I've considered the grout sponge, but I personally feel that with ONR, it absorbs too much water and my ONR solution goes to waste. However, with conventional washes, I use a grout sponge because it's rinses clean much easily and isn't as messy as a wash mitt.

I'd endorse sheep skin, but regardless of the tool I'd have to say that I think the process is far more important then the technology; specifically when using sheep skin to use at least 2 mitts and specify the top and bottom of the mitt for individual panels - and of course washing from top down. Takes time, but it works

Sheepskin for me. I use grout sponges when I detail engines.........(What are you laughing at Chris!?) LOL

...and you can wash them clean and use them on your paint after doing so.

I like the schmitt but they don't last. I'm using the eurow sheepskin now and so far it has held up better than the schmitt.

I use one of those "Muppet Hair" MicroFiber Mitts with ONR.



I think it would also be helpful for posters to mention what type of soap/cleaning agent they use with their mitt of preference.

Viking MF mitt- but the looped chenille pad at WalMart is looking pretty tempting. Only downside is it looks like it could possibly hold too much water.

You might find that (used *properly* ) the BHBs are *too gentle* to do effective cleaning all on their own. Great for the fist passes though, to get the majority of the big stuff off. *Then* follow up with mitts.



But I wouldn't use a BHB without a foamgun, which takes full advantage of the BHB's best (IMO) features: its free-rinsing nature and the ease with which its contact pressure can be controlled/minimized.





Which mitts do *I* consider best? Pretty much a toss-up between sheepskin and MF. But I only use the latter if/when I'm not worried about their tendency to retain certain types of contamination. Whatever you use, I'd CD-test it before the first use (and from time to time thereafter)...remember to test it wet with shampoo mix, not dry

There is no way you'll get a concensus on this. I would say top three answers you'll get are (in no particular order):



1. Sheepskin mitt

2. ShMitt

3. Grout sponge



You'll probably also get some people who use . . .



-Boar's hair brush

-Microfiber mitt (muppet head or other)

-Chenille mitt or pad



Pretty much the only concensus you'll get is that almost everyone will tell you not to use a regular sponge.
