Far From Ordinary: Part 1
<div style="color:rgb(51,51,51);"><span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:13pt;">In a world of ordinary and plain cars, this second generation Audi TT has been turned into something rather uncommon. Love and devotion often drive people to do irrational and crazy things, and this <span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">is no exception. The push for something greater started with a set of 3-piece Rotiform ROC forged wheels, inspired by our very own home town. The next evolution was to bring it down to earth using a<span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:13pt;"> <span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:9pt;">
<span style="font-size:13pt;">track suspension system<span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:9pt;"> <span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:13pt;">provided by our partners at <span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:9pt;">
<span style="font-size:13pt;">Roc-Euro<span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:13pt;">. With the car having developed a personality all its own, it was time to enhance the exterior appearance. It started with a 1 stage <span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:9pt;">
<span style="font-size:13pt;">paint correction<span style="color:rgb(119,119,119);font-size:13pt;"> performed (by us) in July of 2013. Having enjoyed the car for the remainder of the summer and fall it was in need of some attention again to be cleaned up and refreshed.
<div style="margin:1.6em 0px;color:rgb(119,119,119);font-family:'proxima-nova';font-size:18px;">
<span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:13pt;">When the car arrived, it was surprisingly clean for a hundred-mile trip in the midst of winter. Upstate NY roads threw in a heavy accumulation of salt spray and road film... So the TT needed some desperate attention to meet the owner's expectations.
<span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:9pt;">
<span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:13pt;">Examples can be seen below with the heaviest build-up being on the sides and rear of the vehicle, as well as the wheels.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">We started the
wash process by thoroughly cleaning the wheels. Using a safe wheel cleaner designed to
remove iron and ferrous metals without the use of acids, we sprayed and soaked the wheels allowing the brake dust build-up to dissolve making for safe cleaning. Dissolved iron particles can be seen below as the purple "bleeding" which shows the chemical reaction rendering them water soluble.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Next, using gentle soft bristle brushes the wheels are cleaned thoroughly by agitation of the remaining debris and film.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">We're careful to clean our wash tools frequently to remove dirt and debris from the brushes ensuring no scratches are added to the delicate wheel finish.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:14px;">Different brushes and techniques are necessary to clean every single detail of these wheels, including the recessed logos, around the many bolts, lug nuts and inside wheel spokes.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The process is then finished by cleaning the tires using a safe cleaning solution that will not damage the bare aluminum lips the tires are wrapped around. Special brushes are used in cases like this where fitment is tight, but every detail counts.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">After cleaning and rinsing all of the wheels we move on to the washing the rest of the car. Starting with a thorough rinse, loose contamination and excess salt is removed.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Beading and sheeting on the paint surface shows us that wax and protection still remains from the
paint correction performed last July.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">To remove this wax and ensure proper bonding of the protection to be applied we use Carpro Iron-X to remove ferrous metals from the paint. The same purple bleeding occurs, but is hard to be seen on a black car like this. You can see the evidence on the license plate and in puddles on the ground from dripping water.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Our
wash process is completed using 2 buckets, one for clean wash solution, and one for rinsing wash mitts after cleaning each panel. Rinsing the wash mitts after each section allows dirt and debris to be rinsed from the mitt and prevents scratching caused by dirt in the wash mitt. After washing the car is then is further decontaminated using a
clay bar treatment. The clay bar acts as a paint and glass exfoliant by removing the bonded surface contaminants that remain after the wash process. A lubricant is used allowing the clay bar to remove bonded contaminants without scratching the paint surfaces.
<div style="margin:auto;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">After the wash and clay treatment water can be seen standing on the paint (seen above) showing evidence that the paint is properly decontaminated, ready for new protection to be applied. A durable silica sealant (SiO2) was selected for the paint, glass, trim and wheels of this car to protect it best for the trip back to Syracuse and until this coming spring when it comes out of storage to be enjoyed again in the nice weather.

<div style="text-align:center;">
<div style="text-align:center;">
<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">This is only part one of our write up on this lovely Audi TT. In addition to the
Protective Exterior detail we also polished the lips of these Rotiform ROCs and performed a paint chip repair. Soon we'll be showing you the rest of the treatment this car received.
