Area that can be bad news!

The picture is one I stole from a thread posted by jpzapata.
I posted it to show something that GM cars are very bad about. I don't know about any others.
In the lower left corner, you can see some sand that has gotten into the crevices of the weatherstrip. This can/will wear through the weatherstrip in time if it isn't removed. In fact, it looks like some damage has already occured on this vehicle. It's an area that is very easy to overlook. I take a plastic spatula and my vacuum cleaner to remove all of it I can. That's usually gets most of it. Medium bristle brush and some APC finishes the job.

Charles- I have noticed this too. Well I noticed the dirt build up but never thought of the consequences of it being there. I usually just open up the strip with my hands and wedge the vacuum down and that does the trick to most of the time. Cleaning and applying a little dressing in this area makes for a completly clean look.

Charles i think all makes are notorious for that, not just gm's. Alot of detailers overlook it which is sad, cause thats what makes a Detail A Detail. The spatula is a great idea, i might have to try that next time. I always use a bursh if it bad enough that my vacuum won't take care of it.

GM isnt the only one with that issue. I would also say many makes have a similar problem. I know I have to move around the weatherstriping on my Ford, to get the sand out from behind nd under it.
I too like the spatula idea :bigups
