Are turn signals factory options these days?

It just blows my mind what total morons people can be while driving. You know that the law says that you need to signal for 3 seconds for it to count as signaling? If you give it one blink and then cut into another lane, then you can still be cited for not signaling. The funny thing is that I notice more of the newer cars failing to signal than the older ones. Maybe its because people think that just because they have a new car that nothing bad can happen to them. I don't know about them, but I've seen plenty of cars with plowed in fronts and demolished rears that still have temporary registrations taped to the windows. I just can't understand why someone with a brand new car wouldn't take a little more time to pay attention on the road and use their bloody signals. Is it just the stupid Utah drivers, or is this something that everybody notices.

I thought I had seen the end of it when I left Dallas. I thought that it wouldn't get any worse than that. I was driving with a friend down there a couple years ago and she was trying to change lanes without signaling. She was getting all bent that people wouldn't let her in. I told her that she might have a better chance if she used her blinker. She seriously glared at me and said: "We don't use blinkers in Dallas." :lol I nearly died laughing. I am one of those types that uses my blinkers all of the time. Even when I lived in Dallas I used them. That doesn't mean those crazy Texans ever recognized them... ;) lol

It's not a Texas or Utah thing, I notice the same problem here. People here love to slam on the brakes and then turn (without a signal of course). Ugh, idiots.

Worse....slam on the brakes on a two lane road, no blinker, and turn right, from the middle of the road. You have no idea if they had a problem, are trying to turn left, or turn right. They're all trying to kill us out there.

You are supposed to let your blinkers run for 3 seconds?? OOPS! heh I'm a bit guilty on just flashing my signal a few times before moving. Sometimes people purposely stop you from changing lanes if they get a chance to see you flashing your signal for several seconds.

Leaving them on for a long time is nearly as anoying as not using them at all. I mean, merge if you're gonna already! Ya know? I think 3 or 4 blinks is sufficiant and it would take a pretty hard nosed cop to give you a ticket for that. The one blink merge is enough to get someone shot I think. Its like, why did you even bother to signal if you were going to make it look like you tapped your brakes and one bulb is burned out? Leave it on long enough to let us know what you are doing and then shut it off after. lol

Jngr, you seem to be on a serious tear about this issue. :p But, actually, I have to agree. And, no, it's not just SLC. Same thing when I was in Atlanta, and then Philly, and now in the boring rural middle of Mo. People seem to be so scared of those little "flinkies" on their steering columms -- they must think they'll detonate Weapons of Mass Destruction! :lol

It's a Chicago thing as well. But what drives me nuts up here is that some folks will leave their signals on for miles and miles after they have made the turn.
