Are some customers too picky?

I always look over a car before I accept the job. Some people bring you a vehicle that is trashed inside, filthy outside and they expect you to make it look like it just came off the line. I passed on one of these just the other day... a 2004 Toyota Sienna, looked like a rolling dumpster. The owner said " I heard you do good work, but I want to let you know I am fussy about keeping my van clean... yeah, right... :chuckle:

To parahrase Dr. Bones McCoy on the original Star Trek..

"Dammit, Jim.. I'm a detailer :waxing: , not a magician!"

She then asked my what I would charge her to do the work. I told her it would take me at least two six to eight hour days to do properly, and I would charge by the hour at $30 per hour. She counteroffered with $100 for the complete job :rofl :rofl

I haven't seen her since!

as soon as he started with the light deal, i woudl have said im sorry but im not good enough to meet your needs and have left. Im picky as hell, but that is way overboard!

I have the perfect solution for this kind of client. I explain that for a "car this nice" and for a "client as well knowledged" as himself, he would best be served if I charged you by the hour. I explain what I am going to do and about how long it "should" take.

I think thats the better solution, man...is gonna be fast examing the finish :lol

Akele abraço

I think you are doing the right thing. I'm not a pro or anything, but I've worked in service oriented industries. So, I agree with your tact. Take a look at the car for a few minutes. If you can't see the defect he's talking about take the same road the service dept. at the dealership always takes "I'm sorry sir. I can't fix the problem if I can't experience it."

You should have told him when he called back that you can't look at the car again, just say you were satisfied when you left, and when you left the car was in prime condition. Since it has left my eyesight I have no clue what has gone on with your car.
