I have nothing to compare my new PC 7424 to. Not so much motor noise but kind of a rattle going on at all speeds. Is this normal for this machine?

I know this is an old thread, but I put a finger on the black head cover and it quiets my PC down. The rattle I get is from having the extra handle removed.
... I got a couple of bolts and washers and... what a difference it made. Just take the handle with you to a hardware store to find a perfect match. It's still a noisy machine but the rattle is gone.
+1
Also take the machine for fitment with the cover with a washer. (I used Ace Hardware)

I did the same thing with mine. Got some washers and a bolt from work. I mainly use my PC for 4" pads now. I use my Flex for the workhorse.
If you are removing the handle (I personally recommend it) then a bolt or bolts on both sides are required.
As stated above always make sure every backing plate has a Lake Country Compression Washer 5-Pack.
I use my Flex & Rupes but I still do a lot of work using the PC and LC 5.5" flat foam pads or Megs mf discs.
If I've learned anything from paint over the years it is that not any one thing is everything for everything.
To this day my PC is a LOT more than small area correction or a wax spreader. It does correction very well!
