I have a Eurow sheepskin mitt (bought at Checker a while ago, same as Wal-Mart's), that has seen maybe 20 washes so far, no tearing or shredding, minimal shedding, and no sign of giving out. It would seem that one that fails after 2 washes is defective, perhaps. Or maybe quality control is lacking at the factory. You'll probably need to cherry-pick them.
After washing the car, I simply rinse the mitt thoroughly (massaging it gently) in cold running tap water, then gently wring it, take it out in the yard and swing it back and forth really fast to shed most of the water, then hang it up inside the house, clothespinning the edge of the cuff to the edge of the plastic bowl of a torchiere lamp.
