Are microfiber wash mitts better than sheepskin?

What is the general thought on microfiber wash mitts? Do people prefer them over sheepskin wash mitts? I haven't used a microfiber wash mitt yet, so I'm just curious. Here's what I've heard about microfiber mitts:

1. Microfiber mitts don't release dirt as well and they don't glide over the paint as well.

Just a thought here, but couldn't the same arguement apply to using sheepskin mitts? (not releasing the dirt as well because of the thick pile)

Will the use of microfiber wash mitts cause any marring to the paint or are they as safe as sheepskin. I have just had no luck finding a sheepskin mitt that doesn't shed or get holes in it after a couple of washes.

If you don't recommend mf wash mitts, where can I get a good sheepskin mitt?

I used the Meguiars Ultimate Wash Mitt once and went straight back to my sheepskin. It simply doesn't hold the same quantity of water or have a deep enough pile not to cause marring.

Personally I'd always go for the sheepskin.

Ben.

I have used several MF mitts and have always returned to sheepskin. Most recently(this weekend) I tried this zwipes MF mitt, from autozone. While it looks plush and rinses cleaner than most other MF mitts that I have tried, it definitely marred the finish.

The marring factor the others have experienced and the fact that I can hand pick the Eurow kind locally at Wal-Mart @$5 a piece.

Sheepskin here too. If I have a car that is pretty much immaculate to begin with and I am just doing a VERY gentle *re-wash* then I use the mf mitt, but I ALWAYS wash the mitt in the washer with the mf towels after every use because mf picks up and holds in dirt, unlike sheepskin which releases it as soon as you rinse it off.

This goes for everyone using mf mitts. Wash your mitt after every use no matter how it looks.

Has anyone tried the chenille MF mitts from Costco? (yes, they look just like the cotton chenille mitts but are mf)

Although I do use MF Mitts (tired of the sheepskin falling apart), I am extra careful with them becasue the nap is very short & tight & seems to trap stuff easily (they're from microfiber tech).

The Chenille MF I saw had a lot more nap and a lot more surface area. Was just hoping someone else had tried them first.

Bear in mind sheepskin is a natural material so some may degrade faster than others. I am perfectly happy with the soft sheepskin mitts from Wal-Mart. I have no reason to go more expensive given the quantity of mitts I use.

I have them. I'd stay away from them on paint. If you examine close enought, you'll see that much of the backing that the threads are stiched to is exposed and can easily scrape the paint. The backing material is very rough.

However, they're good for wheels, bumpers, grills, lower rocker panels and great for interior dustings.

I'm dying to try THIS MITT. Made in Canada (unlike all the others from China) and has a different cuff. All leads me to believe that we have a different manufacturer. All the others - Eurow, Viking, Baja Sol, Turtle Wax, Costco, etc... all seem to come from the same place.

How about this?

Sonüs Der Wunder Mitt

I ordered one from Autopia Car Care but have been hesitant to use it based on reading some of the warnings here. And hesitant because I just bought a new car and didn't want to risk any further marring from my 'unperfected' techniques. :o

It sounds like it should be safe to use as it is a chenille MF.

There's also something similar that I found at Target, which is the Vroom brand microfiber chenille wash mitt. Doubt the quality is the same as the Sonus mitt I have but it felt plush and soft enough. Would this be better used as a good buffing MF?

I would only consider something clearly marked 100% cotton. Chenille is a ype of weave and not all chenille mitts guarantee 100% cotton. I recently saw aone marked 100% cotton for the first time locally at Boater's World.

I'm not a fan of chenille regardless due to extreme lint issues while washing and drying.

I think one's best bet is picking out the softest sheepskin mitts in the aisle.

You could always do the burn test with chenille to test for cotton but I wouldn't take chances.

the woven MF mitts at cosco hold lots of water and rinse clean in a bucket-they don't glide over paint so IMO they clean better than a sheepskin but MAY cause some micromarring

I own and use sheepskin AND MF mitts.

These are the two MFs: http://properautocare.com/miwamikit2.html

I have used these on my black car for about a year w/out a problem. This car is my garage queen and really doesn't get very dirty.

I like the fact that I can see every speck on the light colored mitt and it can't hide in the nap because it is very short on the MF(unlike the wool). After every swipe I clean the mitt with a power blast of the hose. Remember, the car is never filthy. This way I know I am not rubbing dirt back onto the finish. In the sheepskin mit, I can't really see what is in there. If I hit it with a blast of water, the filth seems to go deeper into the fibers, not off like the MF surface.

The sheepskin is for my dirty car and the wool is for my dusty car.

Also, Chenille is a yarn (formed sort of like a pipe cleaner) that is knitted or woven. A weave is the structure used with the warp and weft yarns in a woven fabric (blue jeans have a twill weave).
