Aquapel

I applied Aquapel to 2 cars so far. The water beading is as good as any of the glass products I've used. Application is easy but I don't think one tube will go around all the windows of many larger vehicles, and I want at least 2 coats on the windshield. The wipers do not smear or chatter. If the protection lasts several months as advertised, it's well worth the $10's per application. So far, so good :up

How was application for you guys?

I used the STP version, finding one in an Autozone. I cleaned the windows with lighter fluid, then wiped dry. Waited about 30 minutes, then applied the stuff as per directions.

It covered the front passenger windows, rear windshield, and 2 coats on the front windshield. The thing is - during application, it looked like it was beading. Is that normal?

Application was easy as pie, though. Initially, when I saw how it was drying on the surface (almost crystalline) I thought it was going to be a pain, and went running for the PC to buff it out. Not necessary. Buffed with a paper towel, and wiped clean with an MF. No hazing problems like I had with Rain-X, but we haven't had any rain yet, so I can't attest to the beading/performance.

Yeah it made beads.

there is another thread here about it and members ahd comments there.

The paper towel was amazing when wiping...like the stuff would not come offf.........then pooooof.....the window is clean and clear....spotless.

The beads are normal. It is a reaction to the stuff bonding to the glass. I love this stuff so far!

I feel out of place on this board being a RainX fan. :D I tried to find some RainX but couldn't so I settled for the STP stuff. I wasn't impressed at all. It is less effective that RainX in my opinion. I've never had a problem with RainX so I guess I'll just stick with it. I wouldn't mind trying Auquapel though if it really is better. I'll wait for some long term reviews of it to come down before I try it though. :) No offense intended, of course. I just like to stick with what works for me.

STP is Aquapel. PPG sold stp the product for repackaging.

I had rainx before and now I have the STP. I love the STP visionblade stuff 10X more.

IT does not schmear when using the wipers in slow crappy rain and the beads tend to be bigger so they blow off more thouroughly IMO.

Me and you man. It is simple to apply and I have never had a smearing problem. Been using it since I sat next to the inventor at the Indy 500 about 15 years ago. Still going strong. Might try the STP stuff though to compare. Probably half the windshield of each for comparison.

Well just got in from a road trip at night and it rained..well it was hard to tell...this stuff works great. The rain breaks up into tiny beads and run up the glass at high speed.

Thumbs up here for the STP/aquapel!!!:up :D :up

I have to say I like the Aquapel a lot more than Rain-X..

First off - if the claims are accurate (and I can't comment to that yet), Aquapel will be a LOT more durable than Rain-X, which has to be reapplied quite often.

Second - I've always had some hazing/smearing issues with Rain-X. No amount of buffing and polishing totally rid the windows of their hazing with Rain-X.

I drove today in some snowy weather, and the performance of the Aquapel was pretty good. Even funnier - I threw some 303 on the wiper blades, and I could see the water beading on them :)

I was sitting in the truck in the rain waiting for the mardi gras parade and we were watching the rain run down the windshield. They would zip down kinda looking like snakes and the then the end would fly by .... we were bored but this stuff works and no schmearing at low speed driving in a misty rain.

I kinda look forward to driving in the rain now...hehehehehe

I too have used RainX along with the STP VisionBlade product, and believe that RainX requires a certain technique for it to work properly. I've had some nightmare experiences with it, but I think I've got it down now -

1) Wash car as normal

2) Dry car as normal

3) Clean windshield with high quality window cleaner of your choice (I recently started using the EF and love it). I also use a very fine #0000 steel wool on the windshield. I use plenty of cleaner and very light pressure on the steel wool. To date (over 14 years), I have not had a scratching problem but your results may varry.

4) Dry with a lint free towel

5) Let windshield "breathe" a bit. I usually apply RainX with each major detail, so I'll clay or pre-clean the paint while letting the windshield sit.

6) Apply RainX as directed with a paper towel. I like the "blue box" of shop towels for this.

7) Leave RainX on until I'm finished detailing the rest of the car

8) Using a good cotton towel, buff the windshield clean.

9) If any residue/haze remains, a few mists with some distilled water will remove it.

I have had no problems with Rain- X as well. The application method which has always worked best for me is as follows.

1. When washing the car, wash and dry the windshield first.

2. Apply Rain-X

3. Let dry

4. Hose of the windshield and clean the rest of the car off as normal.

Thats it, no mess, no fuss, and it leaves the windshield streak and completely haze free. I also put a little Rain-X mixed in with my windshield washer fluid for a little recharge whenever I clean the windshield.
