applying paste wax to polishing pads ?

 What is the best way you have found to apply your paste wax to the pc pad prior to applying wax to car?

Either pop it outta the can if possible and rub it on the pad (I do that with P21), or use a butter/putty knife to spread it on.

Uh, perhaps I'm missing what the question is about.
I take a round foam applicator pad (I guess 3-4"). I mist with QD. I dip the pad lightly into the wax, though my first app is a little heavier. Then I hit the car. I do the straightest panel first so that if I put too much wax on it is easier to get off. Each time a dip for more, I just lightly brush the pad against the wax.
Putty knife? Wouldn't that put it on thick? My goal is to make each layer as thin as possible.
Perhaps I missed something.

That sounds right to me but my pads are 7 1/2 inches and was just wondering what people are doing to get the paste out of the containers? I guess it's a goofy question but you people have some pretty nifty ideas just thought I would ask..

Sorry buys. I totally missed the letters "pc". Two letters makes a difference.
I assumed it was my goof. Continue on. The popping out of the jar and putting it on wax paper to apply is a good idea.

For the experts, a question: do you find that applying by PC means you use more wax? a more even application? Why do it?

Hey Glen since I got a PC and for awhile I want to apply everything with it so I can get use to the tool/more experience I find your question a sensible one. From the answers I'll try popping out the wax and if that proves to be too difficult I'll use a knife or some instrument to spread it on my pad.I too thank you for your answers.

When I first used the PC I was like Rabbi and wanted to get used to the machine. I used it for everything.

One of the reasons why I stopped using the PC to apply paste wax was the fact that I had to take it out of the jar to get it on my pads thinly and evenly. My experience was not good. I wasted a lot of my precious P21S when it started to break into pieces as i tried to get the product out of the bottle. It was suggested to use rubber gloves when picking up the product also. I did not have any that fit properly. It was an effort in futility for me.

I do apply liquids with the PC but have stopped even attempting to apply any paste to paint surfaces because it became a bother that I felt was not worth the effort. I did find that it put a layer very thinly and evenly though. I had no complaints other than the one already mentioned

Pink Wax is the only paste I apply by PC.
A 4" finishing pad fits easily in the wide mouth, old fashion tin. Because of the soft texture, I just have to wiggle the pad a little and it is loaded. Actually I now apply most of my LSPs with my cordless "polisher" (Wen style) that I bought for this purpose. I find not having that cord holding me back I can apply liquid waxes and sealants very quickly.

I wish more pastes were offered in wide mouth containters!

Other then acheiving a thin layer, would applying by a PC further benefit the paint or do you get the same results as if you would be applying by hand?

I would say that maybe it would just quicken the process? I plan on applying Soverign by hand, simply because its easier to control and you don't use as much of it.

Pat the sides of the can to loosen the wax. Get a plastic bag or Saran wrap to empty the wax onto. Hold the wax using the bag or wrap, and wipe it on the surface of the polishing pad.
You will waste wax, the wax will probablly crumble.
