Apple Store, terrible experience......Any i-pod connections out there??

Well, we received the I-touch in the mail from Frys online. And...............

It was stolen out of his backpack in class, behind his back, at school today!

How do you tell a 17 yr old, "Sorry"?

He didnt even have it for 4 days?

Some people thoroughly disgust me...........may they rot in hell for breaking the heart of a teenager....

That really sucks Patrick. I think you summed it all up pretty well........ "breaking the heart of a teenager". These idiots don't care who they hurt as long as they get what they want. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the armpits of that lowlife thief!

Let's just hope that he somehow gets it back..... might be doubtful, but stranger things have happened.

Sorry to hear that Patrick. That truly blows.

Kids backpack nowadays must be a huge score. Back when I was in high school, the most expensive thing in a backpack would be the graphing calculators. Now you got cell phones, iPods, laptops, digital cameras, etc. I'm glad I'm not in high school anymore! If I were a parent, I wouldn't let him take anything more than a iPod shuffle to school. He doesn't need that many songs anyway in the time he walks to school, during school hours, and gets home. Plus the Shuffle can be easily carried in a pocket.

I hope his friends just played a practical joke and returns it, but considering this is a brand new iPod that most people don't even have yet, I have a feeling he'll never see it again.

Notify Apple and if the iPod ever goes into any store or back to the company for service they are supposed to hold it, notify you, and the authorities. Don't know if this ever really happens, but it is supposed to.

Will anybody match the $20 I'm going to send to Patrick. *I'd* like to see his kid have another iPod. Only stipulation is that he not take it back to school.;)

patrick, sorry to hear about this. maybe santa will bring him another one... ;)

p.s. THIEVES SUCK!

Maybe this would be a good opportunity to make him work for another one, unless he already works for you?

I used to take for granted a lot of the things my parents bought for me back when I was that age. I'd use to make a big deal about buying expensive, name-brand clothes, shoes, electronics, etc. Now I'm an adult and most of my clothes comes from Walmart, maybe Costco or Sam's Club.

I didn't know the true value of what a dollar meant back then. Once I started making my own money and having to support myself, I equated every dollar to how many Jumbo Jacks I could buy (before they raised the price) or a better one is how many hours I had to work just to buy a certain item. It makes you think twice about spending money carelessly and cherishing the items you worked hard to buy.

Great idea, I'll match it later tonight....... I've got to try and squeeze in a quick car wash before it gets dark.

My Apple experience wasn't that good when I bought my iPhone. They seem to forget that most people are really excited about purchasing something there and it's a real Debbie Downer when they don't share that excitement with you.

However, their tech support is top notch! I was not happy with my battery life and they swapped it without asking questions in 5 minutes for a brand new one!

I certainly appreciate the generous thoughts folks!

A little update:

Apple was called, nothing they can really do, not even with the WiFi capability such as tracking web prescence. They took down the serial #, my name, email address registered with the Itunes store, and said if anyone tried to get service for the iPod-touch, they would be told it has to be done through the person it is registered to. So, theoretically, if they know my sons name, email address used for registering it, and read them the serial number off the iPod Touch, they're in business..............wonderful, we're screwed.

Police report also given, next is a letter to the class teacher. Not one of blame or anything, maybe just a 90 second class on ethics?

It's true. Its technically impossible to track them.

It's kind of like someone trying to track your laptop with a wifi connection. It might be possible if you're watching some specific backbone routers, but you'd need a warrant to monitor such places anyway (or you could just ask the NSA if you don't want to bother with silly civil rights).

Sorry to hear, though. I've always been sort of uncomfortable keeping expensive things in backpacks. I use a messenger style bag (the same exact one Jack Bauer uses on 24, actually), so my bag is pretty much in my peripheral view at all times - its tough to snag something from me without me noticing. That's always been a rather critical flaw with the backpack.

Tell him to start carrying his iPod in one of his front pockets. Tell him to clear that pocket though - don't want other stuff to scratch it up.

I keep one pocket for chapstick and keys, and the other for my iPhone. Other than my wallet, its all I carry :)

I was in Sam's Club tonight, and it looks like they carry the iPod touch now. I didn't see a price though because all the tickets that you take up to the register were gone, but in their locked storage area, I saw a couple of them still in there.

I dont believe Sams or Costco is allowed to sell at a lower price. That may be a contractual agreement with Apple to be an authorized reseller. (Sell at MSRP)

Yeah, they're usually $10 cheaper at most. It's not much a difference, but I would rather purchase at either place for their better return policy.

Wow, good find then. The Costco out here doesnt even have them listed as ever "available"......And true, the return policy is hard to beat. Even after it had been revised.....

i haven't seen the ipod touch at my costco either. too bad they changed their return policy. I had a 4th gen ipod photo that was in perfect condition besides a poor battery. they returned it without much hassle, even without a receipt (they will look it up in the system though).

a family member recently returned a 1 yr old spotty Sony Handycam (purchased before the revised return policy) and they had their electronics guy ask questions and check it out. they seem to be more cautious about accepting returns now. Not sure if that's something they're practicing at all stores or we just happened to get someone more thorough.

In retrospect to what has happened, the iPod-Touch is an incredible piece of electronic engineering.............Its already on my Christmas list...........

I've been wanting to play with an iPhone or the iTouch iPod, but the display models I've seen at Fry's and Sam's were both locked, so you couldn't see how the touch screen works. From videos I've seen of the iPhone, it's some pretty high tech gadgetry that will impress even the geekiest techies.

Now I just have to wait until they make a high capacity model with built in portable navigation. I would gladly pay up for that. The iPhone, I can pass up for now. :)

Wow, you finally and it get stolen. That sucks! I hope Santa hears about this and gets you a replacement, and puts some coal in the thief's stocking!

I was lucky enough to get one at Best Buy and have already mounted it in my car through a VAIS adaptor.
