Apple Laptops

I wish my Mac wasn't giving me so many problems. :/ I hope the C2Ds are less buggy than the regular core duos.

And I wish they offered better recycling programs like HP.

And I wish they were giving the sweatshop workers better wages instead of giving full-time American employees free iPhones.

My wife & I have 2 Core Duos and have no problems so far. If you're within a year of purchase, get the Apple Care. This should cover everything for 3 years.

I have apple care. it's been in once to the apple store and twice to apple itself. I treat it really well too. It won't open many programs now.

What seems to be the problem? Worst case scenario would be to change the hard drive or re-install the OS. I've done both on older G4 PowerBooks with no problems.

Well, it wasn't loading any programs that had to run off of Rosetta. So anything Office for Mac was out. AIM (seldom use it as Rosetta runs software very slowly). It wouldn't install software, either.

I tried restoring disk permissions but that didn't work. So I'm reformatting now. I don't think this will fix my screen flickering or my left arrow key not working well. And my wireless has been unreliable. :/

I used a C2D yesterday that ran Office for Mac without any problems. boo to core duos.

I believe the only difference between the 2.16GHz White MacBook and the black MacBook is that you get 40 gigs more space on your hard drive with the black. I think the general consensus amongst those who know a lot more about it than me is that it's better to get the white and just add memory later if you want it as it will be much less expensive that way. This is, of course, if color doesn't matter to you. I personally like the black better so...

I've been using the same Pismo Powerbook since 1999 and it's been great. Can't buy much software for it anymore though as it's running OS 9. (Oh...and it's black as all of them were. It's the simplistic design and single "mouse" button that are the hallmark of Macs, not the white color.)

I went with the black, and also picked up a 30gb video ipod for $50. That is already on ebay selling to make a profit. If my iPod sells for $200, with rebates I have coming in the mail I would walk out of this purchase only paying approximately $1,450 with one year .mac account.

Will upload pictures in a couple minutes.

Memory and hard drive space are two separate thing. Memory is much cheaper through a 3rd party vendor and any monkey with a screwdriver can add additional memory on a laptop. A hard drive on the other hand, can get a bit more complicated and if you're not familiar with laptops, I would suggest getting the bigger hard drive installed from the manufacturer.

Congrats on the Black Mac! You won't be disappointed.

Now what are you going to use on it? They say Pinnacle Souveran looks good on Black!!! :chuckle: Maybe some Zymol Vintage?

Thank you! Funny you ask, I haven't had a chance to apply my Marware protective covering for where my wrists sit but I have also ordered a silicone keyboard cover. I am still trying to decide what will be safe to remove the smudges, will probably just use a dedicated microfiber and some water :)

MF cloths with warm water will work. Just don't use anything besides water on the screen.

Looks like I made my profit already, iPod was purchased for $50 and put up for ebay when I got home...less than 5 hours later it has sold for $240 buy it now.

It's purely a color thing. Apple will upgrade the white to 160GB for $75.

That's funny about Rosetta. I don't have any problems with my MacBook (core duo). How much RAM do you have? I have 2GB, so that could be the difference. In all seriousness, for many things my MacBook feels faster than my G5 Quad.

I know it is a hassle, but I would keep going back to Applecare if I were you. Repairing disk permissions will fix some problems, but probably not a flickering screen. That sounds hardware related. You could try booting from your Hardware Test CD that cam with your laptop. That can check some hardware problems. On the old iBooks, a flickering screen was the classic sign of a logic board problem.

Anyway, I hope that formatting fixes your problem, but I wouldn't be afraid to bug Apple over the issue (especially if you have applecare still) if it comes back.

I know people with the black ones and they oils on your hands leave all tpes of marks in theres. So I would get a white one.

I have the silicon keyboard protector and Marware wrist rest. For Any remaining greasy marks a little bit of water on a microfiber and it is like new again.

just a word of caution. I purchased a white macbook in January and have had nothing but problems. I am on my 3rd machine and although I absolutely love it, I question the quality control of their manufacturing process.

Here is a link to a review/rant I wrote on a local forum in case you are interested.

As an add-on to the list of problems, I will be taking mine in because the "n" key is so sensitive that i simply have to place my finger on the key and it will start putting out a whole bunch of "n"s. Furthermore when I play a CD or DVD, the drive sounds like its chewing up my disc.

Wondering why I still have mine? I love the OS.

Hey, lets bring this thread back to life! To anyone who knows or could speculate based on previous updates I have a question about leopard. Leopard will be a 64 bit system, but will we only be seeing a software revamp or will the release of leopard in october also be accompanied by a hardware update(like processors or w/e)?
