Apollo Detailing: Multi-Day Concours Detail

Like many of you, my daily driver has become a bit neglected. It's accumulated many scratches and has a bit of a haze to it and perhaps mild oxidation. I haven't seen clean wheels in months and the car barely has a coat of protection. The last major service was a basic wash and wax with Klasse AIO back in April. I could tell it needed claybar very, very badly.

So, I have just finished Day One.

Process

Wash & Clay

Optimum No Rinse

Riccardo Clay

Test Correction

Menzerna PG with PFW @ 1500 RPM (2 passes)

Menzerna IP with LC White @ 1500 RPM (2 passes)

1Z High Gloss Polish with LC White @ 1100 RPM (2 passes)

Will post more pictures later. I also have 30 minutes of rotary polishing video to process. Stay tuned. :woot:

So I have to check back everyday for an update? I want to see it now! Where did you get that tent by the way?

1) Yes. :LOLOL

2) The job's not done yet so there is not a whole lot to see.

3) The tent is from Bass Pro Shops in Vaughan (the new mall, there).

Ahah! I want to see the video! :)

You will when it's edited tonight.

Looks like you should have some hottie in a bikini sitting on the hood....and then kickin' her a$$ for sitting on the hood!!! :nana: Looking forward to the rest of the pics!!

I'd *almost* kill to have that kind of time for my own car...but I'm loving the business I am getting right now. ;)

My car is lucky to go through the touchless lately when I get gas. :nervous2:

I didn't want to be embarrassed anymore showing up in the car on a mobile detail. :lol

I also plan on installing some signs on the car and that requires a clean, polished surface. No one's going to hire the detailer with the swirled up and filthy car.

This detail is difficult because swirls hide so well. Trying to remove 100% can be more than a little difficult. Nonetheless, I caught these shots:

Before

Note the hazy and possibly oxidized surface

After

No final finishing, just two-step compounding.

Day Two

I altered the correction and opted for two-step correction, 1Z IP on PFW followed by 1Z HGP on White. Menzerna PG wasn't really necessary on a lightly swirled, silver car.

I'm looking forward to the videos as well... I also started this on my pos daily driver (2000 Corolla) but I'm trying to sell my bike and buy a 99 M3, and then I will do it much much sooner haha

Lookin good man

lookin good! Whats your estimate on how many days this is going to take you? Im going to start my work truck (2002 Yukon) in a few days, but i have a feeling that I am going to be putting in 25+ hours on the paint..

Are those the synthetic wool pads from Eshine? Does it really finish off like a foam pad?

They finish beautifully. They're awesome for correction. I wouldn't use anything else, now.

I have uploaded a video to Youtube for all who requested it. It's not ready yet but here's the link for when Youtube makes it available.

If you are getting over run with business, sounds like a good time to bump your prices up a small amount. Unless of course this surge of business is only temporary.

I thought you were the one who said a ONR wash only take you twenty minutes.:D

Sorry Scott, just messing with you a little.
