APC versus Citric Degreaser

I often times see posters using these products for similar tasks. Are they basically interchangable? Or are there some tasks that a Citrus Degreaser will do a better job than an APC and vice versa?

IME citrus works best on grease/oil while APC is OK with those but is also far better for general dirt. APC will suspend dirt particles a bit like a detergent while plain old Citrus degreaser is more like a simple solvent.

Pretty much the only citrus-based product I use regularly is a pumice hand cleaner.

From what you are saying it sounds like a citrus degreaser would do a better job cleaning up and engine and engine bay but a APC would be better to use to strip an old wax off with?

Not sure about the wax but I'd use an APC to clean an engine because it will tend to hold the dirt and rinse cleaner. A citrus-based cleaner might be too harsh on seals/hoses etc. but could be used on a towel or localized spray for tougher oily deposits. I've used SimpleGreen to clean engine compartments along with a citrus spray (from a bike shop) for particularly nasty gunk.

The lines between the two products can get sorta blurry- e.g., P21S Total Auto Wash.

P21S Total Auto Wash is what I have now and while I am happy with it, I was wanting to try other products. I was looking at Detailer's Pride Cleanse All Exterior Cleaner as a possible substitute for P21S Total Auto Wash. However, as I kept looking around, I noticed DP Engine Degreaser and wondered what the heck was the difference? I e-mailed customer service and the answer did not clarify that very thoroughly.
