APC to clean interior and leather....

When I worked a local detail shop we used a citrus based APC to clean everything on the inside of cars. We used it on carpet shampoos, plastic cleaning and leather cleaning. Everyone one here seems to emphasize useing certain things on leather and plastic, but does it really matter. if you are conditioning it then why does it matter what you clean it was as long as the cleaner doesnt mess it up? I worked there two years and never saw the "citrus" mess up any leather.
 
Many folks use an All Purpose Cleaner diluted 10:1 for interior vinyl and plastic (or other dilutions for carpeting). Also, some use Meguiar's APC 10:1 or lighter on leather and protect it afterwards if its vinyl coated, or condition it afterwards if it is uncoated.

But, most folks here are enthusiasts and like to use various products for various parts of the car and reporting on their experiences. It's a hobby and we enjoy purchasing and trying products dedicated for the various parts of the interior.

It's understandable if you're a shop and you use bulk chemicals diluted to clean everything to save time and money. That's not the philosphy of the detailing enthusiat who works at home at a leisurely pace.

What citrus product did you use and what dilutions did you use for each part of the car?

Well, when I worked at the local detail shop we just threw some concentrated in a 5 gallon jug, and just threw some water in with it. We got all of our chemcials from a company called L&C enterprises, and the cleaner was called "citrus". L&C is a local company that EVERY detail shop and body shop uses any where near here. I know I will need different strengths of cleaner for different parts. I will probably use a 2:1 or a 3:1 for outside and have another bottle with 6:1 or 8:1 for interior.

Like I mentioned, it's a hobby and we enjoy all the products, their finer aspects and being able to have discussions about them.

So to answer your question, that's why we like to use all these things.

Your way is cool too if it works in the shop. It's just that we would get bored of having dilutedd spray bottles hanging around!

I guess I didnt clarify... that was when I worked in a local shop. I have been gone from there for two years now, and I am staring a mobile detailing business. I dont plan on "just throwing in" cleaners, lol. I def. going to have a few different bottles of different mixes for different things.

I think that explained it pretty well. Using just anything and diluting it isnt what we do. We do in fact prefer specific products for each item. I use like 3-5 differant products just for the interior.

MULTI PURPOSE PLEDGE this stuff is great and leaves no soap residue, great stuff for light cleaning and wiping down interior dash, displays, plastic, trim
for heavy scuffs, stains, grease, old nasty stuff.....i might use a straight or diluted heavy cleaner like apc simple green or whatever else..
 
I didn't mean to imply that you were sloppy or something!

If you're going mobile (good luck!) an APC diluted in various bottles can be very helpful and economical. You can ask what products mobile guys use.

I know I have five 1 gallon jugs :redface: of various APC's to play with for various interior surfaces, wheels, tires, wheel wells, paint, bumpers, rocker panels, etc... AS WELL AS with cleaners for these things too :D

So they do have a purpose with the enthusiast. It's just that we buy them all!

I use leather and vinyl product from DRI wash'n guard. Use this code number when you order any of their products # 258068. Good luck, Skipper
 
I use a citrus based cleaner (orange) that I get from a local detail supplier....I mix it on a 10/1 and use that for everything on the inside of the car....If I run into something that won't come out like door scuffs, I grab a small bottle of it 100% and use that....I really find that I don't need two or three different products to clean the inside of any car that I"m working on.

Until Poorboy came out with his APC I used a citrus based cleaner that Smart & Final sells called "Big Orange", and I probably used that stuff for 15 years on interiors.

I agree with you about using just one product for cleaning. :D
 
i like the pb apc too, does a real good job on most all for me. but i too have like 3-4 diff apc's that i mess around with for diff things. and the woolite i like to use it now and again too, i mix it 10/1 for carpet and it does real good, smells good too....
