Anyone's kids help detail?

My son, 13, likes to be the "hose" operator during washing, the dryer and polish remover. When he learns to not miss spots I'll let him try putting on the polish. He likes the PC but I only let him do hoods right now for a few minutes. Attention to details is not an easy concept so he is always given tasks that are not too difficult and always "achievable" so he learns "success". For now that's plenty and he "sticks" around to do the "next" thing instead of getting discouraged. Young kids have a fairly short attention span so I make sure his "tasks" vary or mirror what I'm doing.

Last weekend I was washing and vacuuming my household 3 vehicles, and I asked my 16 year old daughter to help. She was reluctant at first, but finally agreed. Two hours later she asked if there was anything more she could do. We had washed, gone over with Final Inspection, dressed the tires, vacuumed and cleaned the interiors, and dressed the leather. She told her mother later she really enjoyed it. I guess she has an obessive-complusive streak like her father. It made me very proud!

My oldest daughter has always enjoyed helping dad clean up cars although at age 5, she is getting kind of tired of it. Now my 18 month old daughter is becoming a daddy's girl and wants to help.

I have trouble getting my 18 year old to wash his car. I have taught him what I know but I don't think he has the passion for detailing.

My eight year old daughter helps my all the time on boats and cars. She cleans windows, vinyl, and vacumms. One customer saw her cleaning the vinyl and was real impressed by the quality of her work. Her room is always clean and when my wife is sleeping since she works at nights my daughter cleans the house. She just wants to impress daddy and whichs she does all the time. I could not ask for a better daughter. Thank god for kids!

My 17 year old son, can't ever get the cars looking good enough! He's always yearning for something that makes more shine!

My daughter couldn't care less. She actually thinks that i'm nuts and that i care too much for materials possessions !

But my 74 year old father drives over to my place every Saturday morning to wash and clean his Chrysler Neon. He pulls into my laneway and takes out his "supplies" (stuff that i've given him that i wasn't using anymore) in a tomato basket (for a carrying case) and goes to town on his car. It's pretty cute to watch. He sure loves that little black car.

We both look forward to our Saturday morning wash-a-thons. He works on his Neon and i work on my Max. :xyxthumbs. Good times.

My 3 year old likes to help me to. He likes to do something very similar to what I'm doing. So, a toothbrush and a wheel keep him occupied for a little while (short attention span). I'll usually have him work on one of my parts cars, where he can't do any damage.
