Anyone wear gloves while detailing?

Actually, the best I have found yet are for restaurants. They are food safe (sanitary), powder free, and are extra thick so they don't tear as easy as the surgical gloves do.

Where do you source these gloves? I tried some of the thinner type, and don't like the powder, either.

Rayvenn I hate the powder too. Never understood the purpose of that.

Yep, powder sucks. I think its supposed to absorb sweat or maybe even block the pores so you don't sweat. I don't know. What I do know is that it irritates the heck out of me.



Anyway, I get the food service gloves from a local restaurant supply store.



That being said, the absolute BEST gloves I have found are from the Snap-On dealer and are designed for the automotive industry. I forget the brand, I think it was Diamond maybe? They are very thick and have a non-slip surface on the palm of the glove to help grip wrenches and things. The only problem is they are very expensive compared to the regular ones you can get from WalMart.



I will go in the garage and dig out these two boxes and snap a pic to post for you.

Detail Girl, other than Jason's suggestions for the "why" of the powder, I've also heard it's to make it easier to slip the gloves on.

Another "wimp" here. Use the cheapie latex gloves all the time for detailing and other around the house products. There is a local medical supply store that has a sale on them all the time for $1.99 a box of 100. If I don't use them my thumbs will dry crack and split.

Try Harbor Freight. They sell nitrile gloves that are durable and don't fatigue your hands as some regular latex gloves might. Go to www. harborfreight.com and then do a search for "gloves" and it will take you to the page with all kinds of gloves.

I use the Permatex brand gloves. I can normally wear them for 2-3 hours comfortably. Low powder and they still seem to slip on easily.
 
Okay, here you go. My two favorite gloves, and both are powder free.

Something funny I noticed, both are manufactured in malaysia.

i dont se rubber gloves, but what i do wear is a nice pair of mechanix gloves while using the PC. it really cuts down on the vibration that kills the hands after a long day!
 
Well, I don't use them for detailing. I actually use them for doing other dirty work around the house like painting. The Diamond Grip gloves I use specifically when working on a car.



In general, when I take them off they go in the trash but since they are nice and thick and don't tear, you can leave them on for as long as you can stand it.

Hi Davey, it would be nice to have some gloves that you can take on and off. Plus I tend to go through a few per detail because I have nails. A girl just cant win!
 
I use disposible latex gloves [from home depot,100pr. per box] 100% of the time when in contact with the surfaces on my cars. [washing incl.] Seems to work well for me as they protect my hands AND the coating.
 
I use gloves for work on brakes or wheel wells or other 'dirty' work. When my 6 year old niece helps wash the car, she has some bright pink gloves and bright pink wellington boots!

Do these gloves have talcum powder on/in them?
 
I always use gloves while detailing as the chemicals in the polish dry my skin quite badly.



I use the disposable type gloves, but not latex. I use the *vinyl* equivalent. They're still very thin, allowing me to have good feel, but are stronger than latex and not as irritating/allergy causing to the skin as natural latex.

I can get them from my local supermarket in the latex glove section.
 
rayvenn, yes they do have some talc. inside.... they fit tightly on the hands, so it's easier to get them on.
