Anyone ride a bike?

jdoria

Don't shop at Wal-Mart
This is my baby. Carbon Fiber frame, fork, cranks, handlebar, and seat. Smooth as silk on a 50 mile Saturday ride with my group.

Zaino Z-2 and Z-8 recently applied, cleanest on the road.

I'm a cyclist. I have the original carbon fiber trek, a prototype mtn bike from the time before mtn bikes (we had them made to accommodate shimano's first deora xt groupo back in the eighties), a gary fischer for ramming curbs, bouncing off trees, leaping tall buildings at a single bound. but it's the road bike I love. flagstaff mtn in boulder is my daily.

I like to ride, although I don't get to ride quie as much as I used to. The only bike I have now is a three year old GT Avalanche 1.0 with some "street friendlier" tires on it. I have thought about trading to something a little more light due to the fact that I haven't been biking off pavement/asphalt in a year or so.

I have a Trek Navigator 300 and the quality of the construction of the wheels was terrible. It can happen to anything. The holes where the valve stem of the tubes secure into were never filed and smoothed out properly leaving them sharp. I kept on getting flat tires, especially on the rear tire and I think I wound up walking almost as many miles as I rode.

It took 3 or 4 trips to the bike shop to figure out the cause. Agh!

I'm going to be on the look out for a better kick stand for the thing too. I find it much too prone to tipping the bike over. Not long after I first got the bike, I securely engaged the kick stand and a slight breeze was all that was needed to knock it down . One of my brake handles split right in two and the other bike shop installed non OEM, aftermarket replacements. I was just a little mad given this is the most expensive bike I've owned.

I let the people at Trek know about my dissatisfaction with the build quality of the parts and they did send a letter back to serve as a credit for the value of the brake handles.

Oh well, I think I just got a lemon. I sure hope everything's resolved with it now because it does ride very nicely.

I've been a rider for the last 20 years....In my late 30's I was ranked a Catory 3 road rider and raced with a local bicycle shop team....Today I ride for health and to give the young kids a bad time....I have the same bike as you..Trek 5200 Carbon frame...Rolf Wheels and Continentals tires...mines bright red with yellow highlights...rims are red and tires are yellow....as the rain stops here in NO CA I will start riding the roads again....I currently training indoors....average rides for me are any where from 20 to 50 miles....for off road I ride a dual suspension Gary Fisher Sugar 4....not a light bike but a real plush ride in the rough dirt....I'm not much for off road riding my real love is the road.

Go big George Hincapie and the Discovery Team!....The Tour 06

I'd like to get back into Mountainbiking, it was a lot of fun. I started out riding BMX bikes when I was younger, after I moved to my current location I just kinda stopped, after about a year I got really into mountainbiing. There's a state park about 5 minutes from me that has milesand miles and miles of trails to ride up, some of them are death if you're coming back down LOL.
I'm going to get a new bike this spring, I might by my friends Santa Cruz Superlight this summer if he'll give it to me for a good deal. I need to start doing something cardio-related so I can drop a few extra pounds from winter. I used to be a jogger too, but I'm too lazy now, lol. Hey, there's another hobby I need to take up again, if we ever get rid of this rain...

I am waiting for my new Seven ID8 with full D/A 10speed and the Ksyrium anniversary wheels. (twin to the ID8 bike on their site) I had it made a few weeks ago, just a few ore to go. This is like a once in a lifetime purchase, at least thats what I told me wife when I bought my C50.

I am going to keep the Trek 5200- the frame is too comfortable to sell, a guy I ride with offered me $2k for it, not selling.

Sonoma - I rode through there Napa and Fillmore. (I almost fell)
Guys form SF kicked my ass. I took them to my "hills" ride in Westchester when they came to NY. The hills I ride at 18mph my friends from SF clear at 20+mph.

If your pulling 18's on the hills your riding well....I have a 20 mile course round trip from my house...some hills not allot...more head wind than anything...best time...52 minutes that's at cardiac arrest speed for me...Most of my rides are around 16 average these days...group rides are a$$ and elbows if yo get my drift

here is my bike I went to take a pic for you

I'm a B+ until July (18-19mph avg)
Typically by July I am an A (21+mph)

Have you heard of the Gimbels ride, fight to the finsh every Saturday morning with 100+ guys, adrenaline/testosterone city.
I usually go get drunk form Grey goose gimlets right after with my wife at Ruby's in Rye. Its a good way to waste a Saturday.

no I've not heard of it but the 100 plus egos racing for the finish been there many times....its quite a rush!....I don't miss the road racing anymore....today I happy to be out on the road alone with no one bothering me...LOL

I did see the second stage of the Tour of California here in Santa Rosa, CA....that was allot of fun and the pro-level riders where awesome.

Plan was to go back to amature racing this year but a back injury and more rain that you can believe here in NO CA are holding me back....I'll recover and get back on soon...Right now I train at the gym 5 to 6 days a week on a spin bike....40 minutes a day

I like to eat and drink too much to get serious on the bike. I worked with a trader at JP that was a CAT2 racer. He tole me to ride with him in Central Park after work one night, they guy yells to me -grab my wheel! I follow only to burst to 30mph for a few seconds and watch this guy rip off into outer space. He then continued to complete five 25mph average laps of the park, I did not. I just got my Colnago C50 with full Record carbon and Campy Neutrons a few days prior, super pimped, I felt like such a FRED!

I think this is like the high end car wax thing. "I need the best, I need the best", but it doesnt do anything for you if the prep isnt done properly.

I'm with you on the food and drinks, living in the wine country is great for riding but better for drinking!

My cat 3 days I was much faster but 30's where hardly as possible the bikes where not quite as nice as today's..still we felt like we where fast...LOL

I do detail my bike. It has I don't know how many layers of Klasse SG and then topped with Collinite IW. 303 on all the rubber that is not prone to danger if dressed :D Yes, I do wash it with the foam gun

Careful with the foam gun...bicycles don't tend to like water much

My last bike was a 1992 Trek 820. I rode that one quite a bit, but never at the level mentioned here. I finally bought a new Gary Fisher Marlin last year, but only rode it a few times. I had some pain in my thighs and hamstrings. I think it was due to the big change in geometry from teh trek to the GF.

I just busted it out for the first time since moving the other day. I only did a few miles exploring the trails around the house. I need to get my ass into shape, so I'll be riding it more soon. There some dirt paths used by ATVs right net to my house, so I plan on following them.

Your right about changing in positions on the bike....you might give yourself a leg up (no pun) and head for a bike shop and ask about a "fit kit"......they will do it there...making sure that you are in right positions on the bike...this will give you back the most strengthen for youe effort...I've done plenty on my bikes and its not just about how high the seat is...there is a lot more to it
Cost is nothing to speak of for what return you get IMO

Yep, just a few squirts I swiftly shut it with the cut off valve. I tend to go over it real quick if I've been out riding for a while. I park it right in front of the hose and clean it up before it goes back in the garage.
