Anyone remember Polyglycoat?? Blast from the Past!

Forza Auto Salon
They were a pretty popular car care company in the 70's & 80's that ultimately closed (bankrupt) do to their products damaging people's vehicles. They use to offer "lifetime warranties" on their protection products and were sold exclusively through auto dealers.

Man, I sure do. Just thinking about that crap the other day and was wondering what happened to the company.

My buddy used to work at the dealership and would get me those tiny little tubes when requested. The stuff seemed to completely fade away within 6 months or so. The dealers charged silly prices for an "application".

BTW, perhaps the company founders were locked up with Eddie Antar (of Crazy Eddie's fame 'n' fortune) !!

Polyglycoat In Chapter 11

Published: March 5, 1983

Polyglycoat World Enterprises Ltd., a privately held chemical company based in Boca Raton, Fla., has filed for protection from its creditors under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code.

According to Gloria Fiveson, the president of Polyglycoat, the company is not insolvent but needs the bankruptcy court's protection because of legal expenses averaging $30,000 a month.

A Chapter 11 filing automatically freezes all litigation.

Polyglycoat was founded in 1969, and it had sales of $13 million in 1980, according to Walter Fiveson, company chairman and husband of Mrs. Fiveson, who added that ''we're not doing anything like that now.''

One of the company's products is Polyglycoat car-finish protector, the subject of several lawsuits charging that the product has harmed cars to which it has been applied. The company is also involved in a trademark infringement suit.

David, how about Aura?

All over TV for a couple of years, late 80's.

It was loaded with xylene and some other nasty solvents, over time the clearcoats stated to go away.

Lot's of lawsuits later, bye-bye.

Was called in to give a desposition as an expert witness by the prosecution.

Guess what?

Up until three years ago, they were still marketing Aura in Europe, and having it made by a US blender!

Crazy Eddie!? Now that's a blast from the past! "Our Prices Are Insane!" They had real good buys too.

More recently, you guys surely remember Blue Coral Touchless and Durashine. The ultimate LSPs, huh?

David, that picture of just plain old paint from days gone by.

No product or products would keep it from happening unless it was never regularly exposed to UV's and changing weather.

Does this count as a blast from the past:

I still have it in my garage and remember the day I bought it at Caldor. The cost was less than the $3.00 mail-in rebate.
