Anyone Opticoat their wheels

I'm got new summer tires coming in, so the wheels are coming out regardless....

I guess this would be a good place just to use up older waxes I don't use anymore as well
 
My OC is being delivered today and will be applied to my wife's DD. I plan to do the wheels when time permits, not only to keep them cleaner and make them easier to wash, but it also let's me use something stronger (e.g. APC) on the tires without worrying about stripping a sealant from the wheels. It can't take much product to do wheels and I'm sure there will be OC leftover from doing one vehicle anyway, so you might as well do the wheels with it (unless you are a professional and will be going through product).
 
Just did two sets for a customer yesterday, before he changed from winter to summer rims, on his two rides. Much easier to do off the cars. One set clear coated so not worried about them. But the other set are DUB chrome. So question is how it lasts on chrome rims?
 
What do you guys recommend for a prep prior to opticoat application to wheels? I was thinking removing the wheel, good wash, sonax, clay and go from there.
 
I have quite a process.



remove from car so you can treat the barrels and faces

clean with APC

clean with Sonax full effect (multiple times if needed)

Tarminator to remove tar deposits (multiple times is usually needed)

clean again with APC

clay bar

polish with mother's power cone and M205 or HD Polish

clean with APC

dry thoroughly and then OptiCoat



Stand back and enjoy your new and very easy to clean wheels!
 
Clean w. Wold's Decon Gel, IronX or AD Iron Out.

Tar Remover

2x IPA wipe prior to OptiCoat.



I did these M5 wheels yesterday, that just were Powder Coated last week.



I just did the IPA wipe on these since they where never mounted.

For me it depends on two things. First how long will you wait to mount the new tires. The longer you wait the more exposure to the weather the rims have. Second where will the wheel weights be placed. If its on the inside or the weights are small Opticoat now. Opticoats pretty tough. Tried to polish some light scratches on my Opticoated paint with an Orange pad and HD Polish and it just laughed at me.

Yeah, no doubt! I just figure that the guy doing the mounting is likely to [mess] things up. Heh heh, can you tell what my tire mounting/wheel balancing experiences have been like lately?!? :rolleyes:



Current OptiCoat project: new (aftermarket/upgraded) suspension bits for the newer Crown Vic :D And I'm installing them myself so there's no damage.
 
OC (or similar) is the only coating worth while for wheels. Sealants/wheel wax is worthless imo. I the wheels are good enough to wax, they should be coated. A whole different level compare to waxes.



I coated some of mine (with c5) before mounting and straight out of the box new. My only concern was would the wheel weights stick on hard enough. So far so good, but I'm still not convinced they are in there hard enough. Anything the tire mounters do to the wheel should not damage/mess up the coating, unless they scratch the lips, which is a problem with or without the coating.
 
As a BMW owner I can assure you its worth your time. I don't think any manufacture's brakes dust more than BMW's. Opticoat makes cleaning the wheels so much easier!
