Anybody feel 303 is too shiney on the dash?

My L5-S1 is killing me!
I bought my Integra a year ago and have never applied a dash protectant to it's black vinyl dash.

I read up on 303 and it seemed to be the farthest from a ghetto shine so I tried it out yesterday. Dusted dash first, then applied 303 with a terry pad (about 6-8 squirts total covered the entire dash and both door panels). Then buffed with a dry MF.

To me it looks way more reflective than what I was expecting. Maybe it was just so "dry" before I'm not used to it looking "normal or like-new".



Anone have any commets? I would guess so people would not want this level of shine on their $40k car if I were a professional detailer applying dash protectant...:nixweiss

Would going over it with a damp MF dull the shine more?

I can supply a pic of the dash if needed.
 
I have found 303 to have the least amount of shine of the 3 products I use. I use 303, Megs #40, and Vinylex.
 
I'm just like bret, I can't stand any kind of protectant on my dash, I prefer the factory matte finish.



I'd try something like 1Z Cockpit Premium, it'll clean the dash and even out the tone without leaving any trace of protectant behind.
 
What about mixing it with some water? Vinylex works perfectly on my TT's dash w/o any shine at all. I guess it depends on the dash material too.
 
I use pb natural look diluted 50/50 water for dashes. Its water based (obviously) so there isn't much of an issue with vinyl fog either. If it is still to glossy (which I doubt IMO) you can always dilute it to your liking.

Hey Eric, I forgot I had the NL you gave me to try :D oopps. I'll try that on my wife's car mixed 50/50 with water. Has any of your customers ever complained about the NL 50/50 mix on their car?
 
I didnt like the look of 303 either when I first put it on. I thought it was a little shiny, and for the next week or so I didnt like it because it looked fake or plasticky. However after that period of time, I started to like it or just got used to it. It has the least amount of dust attraction of any product I have tried thus far. Even after 3 months, there is less dust (actually hardly any) than what is usually there after 10-14 days with other products. So I still kind of have mixed feelings about it as I like other products look for the first little bit but like the low dust of 303. Just my thoughts
 
303 looks fine on my platinum colored dash, looks very matte maybe with a hint of shine if you look closely. 303 is my choice for tires, perfect degree of shininess for me :up
 
I've started mixing my 303 with water about 50/50 or 60/40 (303/water). I spray it on an applicator first, apply, let it sit for a few minutes and then buff with a microfiber towel. To me, it looks as if there isn't anything on the dash. I highly recommend it diluted. That might be more in line with what you're looking for.
 
Yep, I'll need to experiment.

I was more concerned with, when doing others cars, how our resident professionals deal with dash protectant. Hopefully they'll chime in.

I used to use this carwash (obviously, pre-autopia) and one day I decided I would spring for the "Super Dooper Really Cool!" Wash, didnt notice the "dash dressing" in the list of "perks" well, the guys went around with armor all (or whatever it was) in a bucket with a paint brush and slopped it all over the tires, then he sits down in the car and slops it on the dash...with the same filthy paint brush...I went nuts.



BUT, almost everyone got that wash and they all asked specificially for the dash dressing...

I recently witnessed a guy at a local detail/car wash use that god awful stuff with a brush on the tires of a car that came out of the wash tunnel. Made me sick, I stomped on the gas just to get away from that sight :D
 
Personally I like the Vinylex as I find it not too shiny at all. I really dislike any kind of shine on the dash (or tires, for that matter).



On the other side of the coin, I find that a light dressing buffed out with an MF gives a really clean "pop" to the interior.

We ask them first... shiny or matte... just like in a film developing booth hehe.

Just imagine what it was like watching them use it on your dashboard :scared :shocked
