Any high quality MF from OTC?

That's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. No one is right or wrong here, it's all personal opinion. Just don't shoot down my opinion. Everything that I've seen in stores just does not compare to Pak Shak or other high end microfibers. I tried to look up Viking microfibers but I couldn't really find anything on them. Quality depends a lot on where it comes from. Usually the cheaper ones are made in Chine while the nicer microfibers are made in Korea. Do you know where the Vikings are made?

sometimes it doesn't really matter if it's made in korea or china (i've used mf's made from both with no ill effects), use them both and see if there are any problems. here's a great quote from ranney/pakshak...

Aloha,

IMHO...

It really doesn't matter if you have a 70/30 or 80/20 blend towel. As long as it performs with no ill effects. I have seen 70/30 blend towels outperform 80/20 blend towels and vice versa. It all really depends on the quality of material (raw materials), weave, and finished goods process that determines how a towel performs. Other factors to consider are the dyes used, stitching, and edging on the towels.

With Aloha,

Ranney

For the most part is still holds true that's why I said usually. Of course there always seems to be exceptions.

go to k-mart and pick one of those green mf towels and find out for yourself. have you even tried one?

Korea seems to get the nod with making a higher quality MF, but at least some of the towels made in China use fabric imported from Korea.

I'm kind of split on this issue. BigAl3 knows his MF's well and I agree that I've had some towels that were made in China that were fine. Personally though, I tend to play it safe and order most of my MF's from a known vendor such as PakShak, Exceldetail, Autopia, Danase, etc.

I'll also agree on the 70/30 vs 80/20 statement. I have yet to find a direct connection between towel performance and the fiber %.

agreed, the material itself could be from korea, but assembly of satin edging/stitching could be done in china, so the tag could say "made in china", which is really not that relevant...

i still order mf's from some of the formentioned, but IMO the vikings are just as nice. also, the nice thing is you can examine/feel them before buying, and don't have to pay shipping. the green quick detailing towel is as good as they come and i have tons of microfibers (like you Eliot ;) ) that i use all the time and these happen to be one of them as well as a few others they make...

If BigAl3 says the green Vikings are good then you can pretty much bank on it. If I see some when I'm out I'll be sure to pick up a few. 3 or 4 years back I was out-of-town and picked up a Viking drying towel (orange or gold) that seemed pretty decent.

Like I said before, I've never seen them in any stores around here so I can't comment on them. The stuff we do have around here is sad. It's like the stores grab them off of their shelves to do some dusting or aisle clean-ups which is why I'm forced to order from places like Pak Shak.

Eliot Ness this is going to be a wild shot but do you happen to know Brad "RockPick"? Lives in Lexington, drives a 2005 F150 King Ranch, very big detailer.

Just picked up a green viking, 20% off, $5+tax. Feels really nice - again.. similar to the gold drying towel (which I love OTC), just smaller. I'll try it on a car soon.

Just picked up a few green viking from Kmart.

Anyone used the Vroom orange premium MF (I think they are about $10 for 12) from Target? How do they compare to the Vroom white and grey 5-pak (about $6)? Or the grey Vroom detailing MF ($7 for 4)?

Thanks!

I use the orange vrooms for washing all the time. From a marring standpoint, I think the white/greys and the orange are both pretty safe, though I like that the oranges are a little bigger and seem thicker.

FYI, I just bought some Viking polishing towels at K-Mart and they were having a 20% off sale on all microfiber towels.

i find this far from the truth. the viking green quick detailing towel (also a few other they have) are as good as any of the boutiques. it's a shame, some people dismiss some product(s) that are available OTC to be lesser quality of those sold on-line, are missing out...

its a good towel, but people feel to order directly from a detailing website that has a big assortment of nice MF towels. Also paying that much for 1 towel OTC is crazy. I rather buy in bulk and get a few and pay the shipping.

when you buy in bulk it's understandable to buy on-line as you get a price break in volume, but being that these are available "OTC" does not mean that they are any lesser quality than the boutiques (that's what i'm trying to imply) and it's nice to know you can get them if you are in a pinch...

Hi all brand new here. In most forums its considered good etiquette not to start new topics, so here goes.

I'm curious about whether there's a difference among the 3 vrooms available at target. They have a light gray and a darker gray 4 pack, and a bright orange 8 pack all called "Premium detailing mf towels", but the dark gray ones seem plusher for some reason. I'm looking to pick some up for general use since they're more affordable.

Welcome to Autopia!

Yeah, there really is a difference in the Vrroom towels. The grey are quite a bit softer and fluffier than the orange ones. I haven't seen the dark grey ones, though.

They don't last as long as I'd like, but they are safe on even the softest clear coats. All in all, not a bad towel for the price.

good info to know thanks. I have heard much about them as being a decent towel to use and save the more expensive towels. I picked up a 12 pack of the orange ones and a 3 pack of the light grey ones just because as I hardly ever go to target but was in the area so decided to go for it.

Have not used them yet but I did buy a lot of MF's from pak shak when they had the sales and the blue pearl ones on sale. I will use the vroom ones for general purpose and the other ones for paint stuff.

Off topic, my girlfriend did not like the MF towels as she did not like the way they felt on her hands (must be a woman thing) but then later said she is a MF believer now, they are excellent for cleaning. She used them in the house for dusting etc...
