Any experience with 3M pads for rotary polisher?

It seems most people here use pads from CMA. I found 3M backing plate and pads at a local store, about $36 for the backing plate (05717), and about $15 for compound and polish pad each. It sounds like on the pricy end. Anyone here has for or against experience with these 3M stuff? Thanks a lot.

I use the 3M waffle pads for my rotary, they are good pads. The backing plate is overpriced IMO, I just use a Meguiars rotary plate.

Thanks a lot......which meguiar's backing plate are you using, they have two sizes, 6.5 and 8 in? Does that mean the backing plate itself is 8 in or it can use with 8 in foam pad? My understanding is the backing plate should be a little smaller than the foam pads, is this true? 3M's foam pads are 8 in anyway.

Has anyone compare these 3M waffle pads with the finger pads from CMA? Any product reivew?

I found a big difference when using 3m waffle pads with the 3m backing pad as compared to the meguiars backing plate.

Because the meg backing plate has that raised centering knob they are not suited to other pads. I know there are others here that have had great success with the Meg backing plate, Im just not one.

Good Luck
