Any Disadvantages to Using Car Wash Soap As Clay Lube?

Carefull using car shampoo if it dries on the vehicle it can mess up the paint. You can fix it but extra work. Some car shampoos are too strong as well and can eat the clay.



My opinion is not to use car shampoo.
 
I wonder if the problems may stem from storage....I use a plastic container with screw on top and give a few squirts of lube before putting away. I have never had dry of flakey clay.
 
3Dog- Hmm...that sounds like a Griot's clay jar ;) Those are pretty handy containers for clay; I find 'em easier to open than the Sonus boxes.



My Sonus clay doesn't seem to dry out even when I just leave a blob of it stuck to the top of the Glyde bottle (not that I'd recommend doing that..). I've quit spritzing it with lube and now I just store it "dry".
 
I've also had my clay bars breakdown when I used a detergent. The clay would very quickly become crumbly and gritty. It still worked well, but had substantially changed.



Most effective clay trick I've learned is to clay cold. It works *far* better on cold paint. Cleans faster and much less stick or smearing.
 
I have always used a car wash solution as my clay lube, as its fast, economical, and works great. Never had a single problem with the technique or clay, except when I once used a Meguiar's clay bar that crumbled to pieces. It was horrid clay from the start though. I mostly use Zaino clay or CM and it works fine with a wash solution.
